I'm a physics major, and have had a complete and utter disconnect with my criminal justice class this semester. My lack of interest in the subject and subsequent lack of disciple in studying it was horrible.

Because of it, I had to first put the class on a pass/no pass basis, so it could not hurt my gpa, and am now on course to actually not achieve the 70% needed to get the passing credit.

Criminal Justice obviously has absolutely nothing to do with my major, so what exactly will this do if I ended up failing despite it being on a P/NP status? Will it really matter for me considering my major?

Thanks

Well it may matter if you are applying to the top of grad schools, otherwise you’ll be fine. As long as it’s the only, or one of the very FEW classes, this happens in you’ll be fine.

Don’t worry about it, if you know for sure you can’t get up to a 70% then just focus and excel in your other courses, and learn not to take classes you won’t engage in.

As far as your major goes, I suggest you STILL take a FEW classes in the humanities just to show you are well rounded and to learn for the sake of learning.

I guess I am a bit biased as I am a Mathematics major at a LAC.

Good luck!

Thanks for the fast reply. Also, just noticed I accidentally put “disciple” rather than “discipline” in that first paragraph up there. Ah well.

Anyway, thank you. I have other classes that do pertain to my major that are much more important for me to get a good grade in. So I think I may just have to let this one slip and focus on those and remind myself to never ever come close to anything involving law again. We do not mix.

No problem! I didn’t even notice.

I guess I should throw in the disclaimer: This is what I would do, so it may not apply to your situation. That way I don’t get blamed if something were to go wrong. haha

That “haha” seems rather condescending now, my apologies.

Don’t worry, I wouldn’t hold you liable. Ha, it did, and I’m glad you clarified that so there wouldn’t be an awkward misunderstanding.
I’m forced to get down and dirty with mathematics pretty often in my physics course work (even though I don’t like it), but to actually MAJOR in it? becomes dizzy

I salute you for that.

I am doing a combined major in Math and Physics so I can understand how you feel.

My advice to you is to ask around or map out all the bird courses in your college. I did that and some of my humanity courses are actually boosting up my grades because I did somewhat poorly in E&M
