I listed my highest preference as the Teter HRC though recently I have learned that it is one of the dorms affected by the mold fiasco. Yet it is open, while McNutt for example is shut down. Why is this?
The issue isn’t as severe, and they’re housing on floors not affected
You can inquire if you are assigned to a dorm with a history of mold. If you have asthma or take immune suppressants, let RPS know and request a new location.
Teter Quad has 5 buildings…Rabb, Boisen, Elkins, Wissler and Thompson. W&T are currently offline for upgrades. R, B & E currently have students living in them along with some rooms that have been deemed unsafe for students to remain due to the mold levels. If you google mold/Teter you can access media reports from 2016 regarding mold found in Teter buildings. Mold has been an issue at other universities this year. If you have concerns about any dorm buildings anywhere, you could ask for records of any recent mold inspection, remediation and testing done. You could also call IU and ask to speak with Beau Middaugh, Dir. of Environmental Health and Safety who might be able to give you more specific assurances regarding testing and inspection. Any comparison in terms of what buildings are more severely impacted than others right now would need to be based on accurate statistics and test results of all rooms.
