So what's the deal with reporting AP's for college admissions?

I've heard both sides.. you have to report all scores or none.. and I've also heard that you can just select the ones you feel are best, or select the ones you want to get credit exemption for.

So what's the truth? Can you really select AP scores or is it really an "all or nothing" principle?

If we have to stick specifically for a school, let's talk about the Ivies / top-tiers.

Can anyone confirm?

You don’t need to send AP scores to colleges for admissions, as they are generally used for placement. If you want to self-report your AP scores in the applications, do so for all of your scores, because you don’t want the colleges wondering why you took a certain AP class but not the exam for it.

That makes sense – do people typically just submit reports to all the schools? That’s a lot of money though.

No, you only self-report AP scores for admissions. Once you matriculate at a school, you send your official AP scores to that one school so that they can determine placement and credits.
