So where's the letter? NM commended

Quick question. I know my DS was NM commended - but as of yet, no letter. I can't find this info on the collegeboard or NM website. Does the letter come through the high school, or straight to the student's home? I think they are supposed to go out before the end of September. ????

The semi-finalist packet came already, but I think the commended letter might just be what we got last spring.

The school has the letter, and many schools keep it until the end of year awards ceremony. As long as your kid made the top 50,000 and didn't get a semi-finalist packet, s/he can put "NM Commended student" on her applications, because s/he definitely got that despite not getting the letter yet.

DD was commended, and she either got the letter at honors night in late spring or it was in a packet with other awards that she received at graduation.

Information posted on the National Merit Scholarship Corporation site says "September 18 - Notification to principals of Commended Students in the 2007 National Merit Program." There was a little blurb in our local paper last week about the two students in our district who were commended.
So....it was mailed to your high school principal and he/she should have received it sometime shortly after September 18th!
Next big date - February 2 - "Principals are mailed notification of their 2007 National Merit Program Semifinalists who have advanced to Finalist standing, and certificates for presentation to them."

When my S was Commended we never did get a letter. I called the h.s. office and was told they had a list of those who were commended. Didn't get anything awards night either.

D's counselor gave the letter to her last week. It's actually more of a post card. If your S hasn't received his, check with his counselor.

My D got a copy of the letter mailed to the school, but not until just before her RD applications were due. Grrrr. As DebH said, the actual "award" is like a large (roughly 8" X 6") postcard. D got hers at graduation.
