So Who Else Has Gotten ELC?

My counselor told me the other day that I got it. I just haven't gotten gotten the mailed package of information yet. Hmm. So how many people at your school got it? Only 7 at my school did. Kind of odd... We must have grade deflation or something for that to happen O.o So! People who have gotten the information, do they tell you which campuses or campus you get guaranteed admission to?

What is ELC?

Can you please explain because I have never heard about it.

ELC is eligibilty in the local context. It is a program where students have done well even though they go to a small school with limited resources. If you get in, then you are guranteed admission to at least one UC, but it may not be your first choice. It is usually the top 4% in the class. I got in the ELC program this year also.

I think it applies to all CA high schools though. It shouldn't be just those with limited resources. So which campus were you guaranteed to?

i do not know yet, my counselor said that i got accepted and the paperwork should come in a week or two. Do you know which you are guranteed to?

Nope, I was just curious. The package is supposed to come any day now though :)

Hopefully it comes soon, i get too nervous when ir comes to these things

DD got ELC last year. Our experience...she was identified as ELC in September. She later (October?)received letters from several UCs saying "if you apply, you will be guaranteed admissions'. Essentially, these schools become your safeties. If you choose to "apply to those schools-you will get a letter of acceptance, and maybe selected to receive a "Regents Scholarship", which will cover most if not all of your COA.Not all the UC's will send this letter...UCB and UCLA DID NOT send these letters-but she got into both. I believe ELC is only offered to students in the public school system in CA.I hope this helps...BTW---CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Nope, I go to a private school, so I guess it goes for all high schools in CA. Too bad Berkeley & LA don't send those letters =P So, theoretically, I could get into UCSD's Bioengineering automatically? O.o It's a competitive program from what I've heard. Hmmm...

Oh, well! Yay for safeties :)

UCSD doesn't participate in ELC, as we established in another thread...

I actually contacted my counselor and asked her about it. She said that technically all universities "participate," but a few of them just don't come out and guarantee you acceptance. Although... you really have like a 90% chance of getting apparently? That's what she said. Not sure about what they REALLY mean though.

i bet ucla and ucb have dont care about the whole elc thing or dont take it as much into consideration

How does one find out if he/she is ELC elligible?
Like, do you not know untill you get the letter/packet, or can you determine ahead of time if you are elligible?

At the end of last year our counselor had us sign transcript release forms and this year our UC Counselor, she works for the UC's, told me that i should be getting the letter in a week or two

A school participates in ELC if it guarantees that you'll get in if you apply. UCSD does not participate. Therefore, it does not guarantee admission to anyone. However, of those who were ELC students, ~90% got in.

Berkeley and UCLA don't care about ELC; they can tell how strong a student is by his/her application.

You cannot really determine ahead of time whether you are eligible or not. BUT if you have gotten only A's/A-'s since Sophomore year, then you will probably get it. or atleast, I think that's how it works.

ELC is generally the top 4% of your high school. Only in special cases will those students not get it, I think. (Even UC Riverside rejects some ELC students.)

Aquamarinne, what is your rank. Cuse in the bookelt it said top 4% in your class, and im in my top 4% in my class

Interesting, I didn't sign any papers allowing anyone to release my transcripts (well I don't remember doing that, then again I don't remember anything from Math Analysis, but thats a different story) and I didn't get straight A's since sophomore year, so I doubt im ELC.

And I'm not in the top 4% percent of my class. Actually it depends, my school is wierd, we have four different ranks:

Unweghted: 55/550
Weighted: 46/550
Academic UWTD: i dont remember
Academic WTD: 30-something/550

Which is top 5.4% at its highest, so no ELC for me.

well i didnt have straight A's neither but i do rank high
