So who has applied ED for the class of '14?

For OOS you nearly need a 2000 to even have any chance and then you have about the same chance as getting into an ivy.

2000…on SATs? i got a 2100 overall. 1380 was just out of the two main parts.

Yes, I realize that, I was just generalizing. So yes you will be considered but there is no way to guarantee OOS admittance unlike with in-state admittance.

Instate admissions isn’t guaranteed either, it’s just far less erratic.

do you think an OOSer (NJ) with a 2030 SAT and a 4.0uw/4.435w gpa would have a shot? i have 9 varsity letters, president of key club, student council for 2 years, national honor society… i’d like to hear what anyone thinks.
thanks and good luck to everyone! i so wish i lived in NC so i would have a better shot … i love unc! :/

i’m OOS & applied EA as well. i have a 31 ACT, 4.542 (W)/4.000 (UW) GPA, 10 APs, president of best buddies (secretary and vice president sophomore and junior year), secretary of nhs, tons of volunteering, 4 year varsity gymnast and captain this year, key club, spanish honors society, writing well tutor, and a bunch of other minor ECs–so hopefully i get good news on jan. 30th!! i can’t wait!

ahh i’m so nervous! OOS 2250 SAT, 4.4 W 3.7 UW (top 10%), senior class pres., nationals in debate, 4 year varsity track, founder of community service club, national merit semi-finalist…

I got a letter saying UNC admissions office nominated me for the morehead-cain though, so I’m hoping that’s a good sign?

The UNC admissions process is separate from the Morehead … although it goes without saying that to get nominated for the Morehead, is quite rigorous itself. I’m guessing you now have to fill out the app and go through a phone interview to determine if you will be a finalist and attend the finalist weekend at the end of March. Regardless, just being nominated is a nice honor. Congratulations.

Do i have a shot? 2280 SAT I(one sitting), 2290 superscore (SAT I), 740(bio-m), 800(math ii) SAT II’s. 3.64ugpa and 4.45 wgpa. Excellent EC’s. Essays are in progress. should be decent though. its my gpa im worried about. btw,i’m from md.

Corey 91, where are you getting this information that you have to have a 2000 to even have a chance of being looked at? Yes, for out of state, the competition is more intense, but why would you think that if a person scores lower that a 2000, than they will not even be looked at?

^ Not presuming to answer for him, but I believe he is stating a generality, not a fact that admissions would come out and say. For instate admissions a relatively high SAT score is needed, with no one from my competitive instate high school who scored less than 1900 being accepted (not to say it doesn’t happen elsewhere.)
Carolina judges all applications holistically, and they have no official cut-off number for SAT scores or GPA, but one must be realistic and understand that unless an applicant has some extenuating circumstances, or remarkable achievement elsewhere, any on applying OSS with less than a 2000 has little chance of being accepted.
