So WORRIED about college!

I’m pretty new here… so hello. How do you do? :]

Anyways - I am SO WORRIED about college, I don’t know what to do! I’m an average, mediocre student. As of now, I have a 3.3 GPA [3.8~9 weighted] which is relatively low, compared to most of my friends/classmembers (I’m taking all honor classes/hardest schedule, so everyone there is super elitest) therefore… I’m starting to believe I have zero chance at any of the top schools in the country. D:

I live in a predominantly white/snobby/rich town in Mass, in a fairly competitive public school, I guess. I’m ONLY a sophmore… but is it really possible to at this point [with such a low GPA…] to get into any of the, per say, ivy league schools, or caltech/CM/mit, so forth… if I start working harder?

… Of course, I say this now, but I’m going to procrastinate sooo much. xD

My courseload for next year -

<li>Honors Humanities</li>
<li>H. (Honors) Physics</li>
<li>Enriched Pre-Calc</li>
<li>AP Bio/or Chemistry?!</li>
<li>AP European Hist</li>
<li>H. French IV</li>

Senior year is basically packed with APs, meh. [AP English, AP Physics? AP French, AP Calc BC…]

Would it be a good idea to take AP Physics / Chem / or Bio [if you could only take two] if you wanted to continue as a premd/medical student?

And also… would you really consider a 3.3 a low GPA, for the schools like Brown/Dartmouth/Cornell? ~_~ What would you say is the lowest GPA they’ll accept from a mediocre student with decent essays/recs/SAT score, so forth? [I’ve taken the PSAT, got a 87%tile… and that was just because of the writing skills section, which I bombed xD]

Any feeeedback?! I don’t want to die of… worry-dom. o_O

<p>hey,
well, competitive colleges really like students with top gpas because not only does it show the commitment of the student, but it also brings their average gpa of freshman class up. for example, look into the ivy league schools (go to the college board's website and you can see that they all have really high average gpas. Now lets say you were an admissions officer and the average gpa was a weighted 4.3, well would you want to bring that down by admitting low gpa students or keep it on the rise? Well, dont get stressed out though, because there is hope, and plenty of it. #1 GET GOOD GRADES FROM NOW ON PERIOD. colleges like to see upward trends of improvement, lets say freshman year you get all b's sophomore year you get b's and a's junior mostly a's and senior almost all a's they will like that a lot more than if you werent showing improvement. also make sure you do a lot of unique extra curriculars as well as other academic related things (bragging about computer games isnt what they are looking for, tutoring innercity kids or playing australian football is more in the ballpark). And lastly, do well on your standardized tests, remember, not all schools are the same difficulty that is why there are standardized tests so that they can compare you to other students. so, yeah, there is hope, but you are gonna have to work hard if you want to do well.
ANd WHAT DID YOU GET ON YOUR PSAT what scores. ex 50's 60's ??</p>

<p>Wah, thanks for replying! :] I love you! Your reply was very helpful, thanks.</p>

<p>"#1 GET GOOD GRADES FROM NOW ON PERIOD."</p>

<p>That's easier said then done, haha. Especially with my tendency to slack off after the first term, and totally die... anyways, yeah. </p>

<p>PSATs, I can't seem to find my exact scores, but in math, it was 98%tile [68, I think?], reading comp was about 87%ish [high sixties], and writing mechanics was about 80-85%. [low sixties, high fifties?]</p>

<p>Yeah. :[ I took an SAT over the summer though, and scored 740 verbal, 700 math [this was the old version, btw] I'm a so-hum essay writer, I've always liked to write, though I stress under timed conditions [which will be the new SAT I'm taking next fall/spring! >_<]</p>

<p>Anyways - I'm going to try hard to raise my GPA to at least a 3.7 by the end of junior year... if it's possible! <em>waves flag</em></p>
