So...yeah. ^_^''

Well, I'm applying to Stanford, but, really, I don't feel I have much of a chance I'll get in, especially since there's another person in my school applying and he's got waaay better stats. xD But I'm hoping to get into USC. I know the are very well since I was born at USC Medical Center and lived like...two blocks away from the school up until I was eight and moved to Texas. Anyway, for my stats...

Ranked 10/507
GPA: 96.84/100 Weighted. My school doesn't do unweighted... =/
Right now I'm taking: AP Bio, AP Calculus AB, AP Government, AP English Lit, Webmastering, Academic Decathlon, and Economics.

Have taken: AP World History, AP US History, AP Spanish IV, AP English Language, and AP Psychology. I've only passed two AP exams, a 3 on the English and a 5 on the Spanish. Rest are 2s. But I'm not submitting my scores to USC since it's optional.

Race: Hispanic, First Generation College student

Clubs:

Academic Decathlon - 3 years on the team
Teen Court - 2 years
Junior Historians - 2 years
SADD - 1 year
Link Crew - 1 year
National Honors Society - 2 years

Volunteer Work:

Brandenburg Elementary School
Salvation Army
Union Gospel Missionary

SAT: 1850
600 Math
620 Reading
630 Writing
I re-took it yesterday, but I don't think I did better than before...

SAT II:
590 Literature
760 Spanish
610 US History

I'm re-taking the Lit and Spanish in December.

As for awards, I don't really have much that stands out. Just certificates for volunteering, perfect attendence for two years, National Honors Society Member of the Month, etc. Things like that.

I'm also applying to Boston University, NYU, University of Dallas, Stanford, and Columbia University.

I don't know if it matters, but my parents are immigrants from Central America. My first language is Spanish. And I live in Texas at the moment, though I was born in Los Angeles.

No takers?

Stanford, columbia are very high reaches.
NYU - slight reach/match
Boston U - match

Oh, and are you a guy/girl?

Well, I was looking for USC. But I'm a girl. Why? Does that factor in somehow?

Anyone else?

Anyone else?

Oh, on a 4.0 scale, my counselor told me I have a 4.68 if that makes a difference.

Let me help a bit to clarify some things:

a 96.84 is the equivalent of a 4.184 weighted GPA
Based upon having taken 5 year-long AP courses, this puts your regular GPA (unweighted) at right around 3.81 (USC's average is right around 3.74 or so)

The 1850 SAT score is okay--USC's average is around 1940-1950.

The scores on the SAT CR+M sections (which is what USC really cares about) are 1220 versus the USC average of around 1300 - 1310.

You will get points for being a first-generation college student and for your volunteer work. You will lose points for lack of a leadership role in one of your clubs or in a sports activity. The lack of a special award (or participation in an academic award-type activity, like debate or math olympiad) will also be a slight negative.

Your hispanic heritage will get you no extra points at USC (hispanics are in the majority in California).

My guess is that you will sneak into USC provided you write some decent, interesting essays about your interests and what you are accomplishing in your volunteer work. It will be a very close decision, I should point out.

Also, I do not see you getting into Stanford, Columbia, or Boston College (although BC is probably about a 45% yes, 55% no)--so I'm glad to see you are applying to some other colleges also besides these and USC.

Best of luck.

P.S. If you are taking the SAT over in December and can improve your Reading or Math score (or combined score) by about 80 points, then I think you can get into Boston College.

Other Schools:
Boston University--Safe Match
NYU--Match
University of Dallas--Safe Match

Ack, I didn't write down my roles in my clubs. For Teen Court, I was Clerk, Bailiff, and Master Juror. For the Academic Decathlon team, you're either on the team or not and not everyone makes the team. For SADD, I was head of the Organization Staff. And my school's GPA scale...I'm not sure the way our scale works, but my counselor converted my GPA into a 4.68. I know it's a long shot, but I'm still going to have a bit of hope for Stanford. Maybe it's because my friend got in and she had pretty much the same stats, except she slept during all her classes and sleeps through her classes at Stanford. Meh. What happens will happen.
