so you think you are good at math???

go to

<a href="http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d81/randomstuff123/mathscrambler.jpg%5B/IMG%5D">http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d81/randomstuff123/mathscrambler.jpg

for the image you might need ;)

The area of square WXYZ is 25 cm^2. The four smaller squares have sides 1 cm long. In triangle ABC, AB=AC. When triangle ABC is folded over line BC, point A coincides with O, the center of square WXYZ. What is the area of triangle ABC.

make sure i see some work!
good luck!

Where are the four smaller squares. I only see two things that look like squares, near W and Z, nad even they look like rectangles.

I'm guessing this is for your homework...and yes, maybe specify the vertices of the four smaller squares, since the drawing isn't to scale.

It looks like 3.75 cm^2

That's easy, I just don't want to do your homework for you.

Yeah, this isn't really challenging at all. Sounds like homework.

its actually not math hw.

its a math scrambler i wrote for our schools paper.

NO ONE wants to try???

i had only had 5 submissions since the paper was released last friday... no one got it yet

oh and you don't need the vertices of the smaller squares

Um, I don't see how there are 4 sqaures with an area of 1.

I think the scale's off.

I believe the 4 squares are above B and W and below C and Z respectfully.

its not drawn to scale.

the squares to the left of W and Z and the square above B and below C are the "small squares" with sides of 1 cm

yes gyroid you are correct... i am not one for drawing pics on paint.

:)

is the answer possibly 6.75 cm^2

Yea, I think so Pyroman.

i got 6.75 cm^2

distance from side of square to O = 2.5 cm
width of the long rectangle = 1 cm b/c the squares on the edge = 1 cm
width of small rectangle is same as above
therefore, height of triangle is 4.5 cm

base of triangle is 3 because the width of the square is 5, and the base of the triangle is the width of the square -2 (the 2 1-cm squares)

therefore, the area of the triangle is

1/2(4.5)(3) = 6.75 cm^2

Got the same....

correct... sorry i can't give you guys the candy bags... haha

was it supposed to be hard? Like im not even jokin
