Hi everyone,
I am an incoming transfer student for FALL 11. I will be taking Soc Sci 10A with Noviello and I can't find anywhere which textbooks we required to buy for this class. This is the only class that I will be taking that I doesn't have this info up online. I looked on the bookstore website, as well as on EEE but couldn't find a thing. The only thing I found was an old syllabus for Summer 11 but I don't know if the book edition would be the same. Do you think it would be ok to show up on the very first day with no book? Thanks!

It means the professor hasn’t registered any text for the class.

Not on the students to find out what text is needed. Its perfectly fine to show up to class without the book… thats normal for a majority of classes.

I had this professor last year my freshman year. I was pretty much one of the VERY few freshmen in that class since most students take the Soc Sci 10 series their junior or senior year. I just wanted to get rid of my math requirements early lol

This class was pretty easy as he lets you use notes during quizzes and the final. His discussions are also easy since you are just there to turn in homework and listen to the TA go over stuff from lecture. Overall, I would say this class was an easy B, but an A is definitely possible if you put in more effort. He does a lot of stuff to raise students grades.

The book for the class is “Secrets Of Stats” (ISBN: 9781118012956). It came out last year and he actually published it himself. I dont think you will find it any where else besides going to the bookstore. Noviello is a stats genius and he often makes jokes in class to make the class not boring. However, dont go to his office hours! He may seem cool in lecture, but he has a completely different persona in his office in which he doesn’t want to talk to anyone. Weird o_O

So dont worry about the book. Its not mandatory at all, but it helped me understand his lectures. Oh, homework requires the software SPSS which is provided in the textbook but you can use that software already installed in the computers in the first floor of the Social Science Tower.

Wow thank you so much for your detailed response. That is really good to know. I am really nervous about taking this class and you made me feel like it will be just fine. I will be looking for his book on the bookstore. Thanks again!
