Soccer in America?

I saw the world cup between France and Italy and the infamous Zinnedine Ziadain (I thinks thats how you spell it) headbutt. What a bull!

It definitely depends on where you are. I'm pretty sure its overall popularity is a lot more here in NY than somewhere in the midwest. I'd say soccer is stereotyically popular in Southern CA and Eastern prep schools.
You can definitely find people that love the sport in most places though, and its becoming more and more popular, slowly, but surely, and Beckham is only helping
I love soccer.....lots of my friends do too. about 4-5 of them are very good and play club, 1 is from England and follows Premier religiously, etc. Its definitely not the most popular sport, but those play or follow it genuinely love it.

P.S. completely agree with the FOOTball should be kicking with your FOOT thing.

le football, selon moi, est d'origine britannique. le 19eme si

Soccer will NEVER replace football as a popular sport in the US. Kids here play it because it is safe and cheap compared to football and their parents like the fact you are unlikely to get badly hurt. First generation immigrants will watch it but their kids will not when they become adults.

Rugby> ALL

le 19eme si

I personally play collegiate American football after having grown up playing soccer. Football is just a more "manly" sport here, that's all it genuinely comes down to.

le gouvernement italien a adopt

"Soccer will NEVER replace football as a popular sport in the US"

not until they figure out how to work it to accommodate tv and commericals. I enjoy both, I agree it will probably not replace football, but it will gain popularity and grow. The nfl, nba and baseball didn't happen overnight, they happened over lifetimes.

And football was born form Rugby, a truly great sport. The second most viewed sport in the world behind soccer.

we got beckham now :D they plan to show all the mls games at local and national tv more. with a transfer price of $1 million / week over 5 years, that is like a record right there. THey would expect the sport to be improved. More people go to games and watch it, more venues and more $$$ flowing in. It is definitely going up tho.

I hope it helps. I remember the glory days of the old nasl. Sellouts in the kingdome. Ahh the good ole days.

Becks will bring something to the game for sure. He still is one of the best free kick takers around.

Hey, USA 2 Mexico nil. Close to a decade with no goals against on our soil from our mexican neighbors. Boy, that must burn. Alot of new faces some did very well, some we won't see again. Howard outside of the first couple minutes did a good job.

Does anyone remember Gica Hagi from World Cup 94?

Hagi from World Cup 94?

yup.

yes romania captain
best game ever romania - argentina world cup 94

God, I can't believe someone remembers :). Yeah, it was one of the greatest games...too bad Maradona didn't play. The next match (the one with Sweden) was one of the biggest disappointments of my life-we would have gone to the semifinals if it weren't for our dumb goalkeeper. The present generation is one of alcoholics and drug-addicts(see the case of Mutu)-I really miss those times when Hagi would drible anything in his way.

haha true that
Hagi of romania is oftem refer to as Stoichkov of bulgaria. They are the heroes of their countries but 1 great person can not alone help the team. THese 2 teams dies out after world cup 94. Man, I can tell u the scores and details of every single game at all the world cup that I watched, even the ones when I was 5,6 years old. I wish I could do that at school tho :D too bad
