Soccer Recruit

Specifically, how does an ivy league recruit soccer players(I understand process is diff. from other D1 schools)? Also, I live in California where there are also prestigious tournaments, so is there a chance that they will come and scout, or is it better to be on the east coast?
Also does anyone know the academic standard (average gpa, ACT, SAT) for soccer players?

I’m not sure that the recruitment process is necessarily different from other schools. My son plays for a So. Calif. club, and I know a couple of Ivy’s were at the Dallas Cup when they played recently. I do not believe any of the Ivy coaches attended the IMG tournament on the east coast, although other D1’s did. As far as Calif. tournaments, I think a few attended the Surf Cup. I’m assuming from your name that you are male- you will find that far fewer men’s coaches attend these tournaments than women’s so it can be hard to get seen unless you go to their camps. Are you limiting yourself to the Ivy’s or to D1, or are you willing to be flexible? Also what level club team are you currently playing for, as the Div. 1 schools typically recruit from Academy, ODP, and maybe Premier. If you really want to play college soccer, be flexible as it is a tough process!

I know that the (former) Harvard coach attended the DAP winter showcase in Florida. He also used to run a summer camp at Harvard that was attended by interested players. I am not sure if the new coach will do the same thing, but it is worth checking the team website to see if there is a camp advertisement. The other option is to e-mail the Ivy coaches to ask what tournaments or camps they will be attending.

Tyberius’ s advice is good. If you want to go to school in the east, you may have to attend camps during the summer in order for coaches to see you. It can get kind of expensive when you are in California, so be picky about which camps you attend. Two of our players have done tours of east coast schools including Ivys, one just a few weeks ago. One question he kept getting was, if you are from So. Calif., why are you even looking here (east coast schools) to play soccer? Obviously it is not that our schools are better, but that our weather is so perfect for playing soccer year round, why would you go east? Of course you should pick your school for academics and not for soccer, but location is definitely something to look at.

yesman32, you should look up info on the Academic Index. It will give you an idea about the academic requirements. The Ivies have agreed to keep the average athletic Academic Index value (you can find a calculator on CC) to be one standard deviation from the rest of the class.
