Social aspect of Rochester

I've recently been acceptedd to U of Rochester, and considering I've been rejected to my other reach schools, it's between U of Rochester and UW-madison. I have heard that U Rochester is pretty dull as most students in campus are fully focused on their studies and not having fun (I assume people say this because it is a science-oriented school). Is this true?

I'm a really social person and I love hanging out with people and having fun, with partying sometimes. I really dont want to enter Rochester with a dorm with people that will only sleep, study, and eat. I want to have a good education, but I dont want to go to college just studying all day long. I know Rochester is by no means a party school, but is the party scene here really bad?

The Student Life atmosphere at the University of Rochester is very vibrant and diverse. There are currently 248 student organizations on campus; have a look here https://sa.rochester.edu/clubs/

I was never a party animal, but I would certainly consider myself an outgoing/social person. The U of R was never dull. With 248 clubs to join, not to mention the 23 Varsity Sports / 30 Club sports / 6 intramural options, the 6 semi-pro teams in town (The Amerks [Florida Panthers farm team], Red Wings [Minnesota Twins farm team], Razorsharks [basketball], Knighthawks [lacrosse], Rhinos [soccer], and Raiders [Arena football]), the Eastman School of Music, Water Street Music Hall (I saw Dashboard Confessional, Guster, and Fun. there this winter), well over 50 bars/clubs in Rochester, the Geva Theater, the Little Theater, and the numerous parks surrounding campus you can always find something to do.

23% of the student body is affiliated with Greek Life on campus, so while they don’t dominate the student population, they do play a role in campus life.

While you won’t find our school in the “Top 100 Best Party Schools” in the country, you can always find the party scene on a Thursday-Friday-Saturday night, like at many college campuses.

The U of R is a very fun place to receive an excellent education. Thanks to the Open Curriculum, not only will you be picking all of the classes that sound interesting to you (no Gen Ed restrictions), but you also have a virtually unlimited amount of extracurricular activities to choose from as well.

Go to a Spring Open Campus event to check it out for yourself! [University of Rochester : Event’s Registration](http://enrollment.rochester.edu/admissions/soc/)

My kid seems to be having fun.

D2 is also having fun. Sometime I think she’s having too much fun…

Hey… I can only speak from the perspective of a staff member and a graduate of another institution, but I am certain that Rochester students have a lot of fun. It isn’t necessarily ‘party school’ fun at all times (see ‘Animal House’), but it has always impressed me as a place where students work equally hard towards their clubs/student organizations as they do their school work.

I would definitely recommend asking some current students. They are living it and will give you the scoop.
