I went to a school in long island that i ended up not liking at all and transfered after the first semester. I am currently going to my local CC as a sophomore. I hate to say it but the social aspects at the first school really messed me up to the point where i either want to go somewhere close or go where i know people. I know its something i need to get over but i was just wondering if there are any schools in particular that are good for transfers. Such as schools that aren't to clingy (as long island schools are). I know it will be even harder since i would be transferring as a junior which adds to my concern. I live in the east coast but i am open to anywhere and i have a solid gpa so those are not an issue. Thanks.

*OP:You should probably give us more information like your intended major, what type of campus you want (urban vs. rural vs. suburban), whether a big greek scene is a turnoff or turnon, sports, etc…

That being said, I think you’d probably be best served going to a small, private school as opposed to a large, public school. Also, you’ll probably want a school that has a transfer orientation week/days so that you’ll have an opportunity to get to know your fellow classmates before you start up school. The school that immediately comes to mind is Rice.

As to “go where I know people”, you should take a look at the schools where your friends/relatives/HS classmates are currently studying or recently have studied. You may be happiest at that big state university where half of your HS class ended up, or at the one where most of your community college pals are transferring to. It certainly IS ok to go to the college/university where most of your friends are if that choice will make your life easier so that you can do better in your studies.

Good Luck!

I have been looking into schools where i know people which include big state schools but not all are appealing to me because of majors. To answer crs1909, i have interested in media, film, radio, advertising (not general communications unless the school is known for it) and i dont have any option of greek life, sports urban or rural.
My main concern was for example i am looking into towson however i only know one person and i am about a 5 hour drive away. I am just concerned how hard would be the adjustment for a junior in an example like that since i also am not familiar with any programs for transfers so if you are own your own.

Syracuse has a very good communications department and a pretty high transfer acceptance rate.

What about looking into some of the SUNY schools like New Paltz, Buffalo and Oneonta?

i got in to oneonta but decided not to go. Got denied to new paltz and no interest in buffalo. Would you happen to know anything about Oneonta and how it would be like to transfer 2nd semester or fall 2009 as a junior? I dont know anyone there and it seems like a small close knit school.
