Hi I'm an Aussie student and JMU is one of the universities which my university is offering scholarships for exchange to. I want to go on exchange in America and JMU is the only one listed. I know a couple of people having the time of their lives at Florida University and was wondering how the social aspect of JMU is compared to other US universities?

I can't tell much from the JMU uni other than that it seems to have a sort of 'alternative philosophy' with the main theme of the of the uni being philanthropy

Playboy ranks JMU as 22nd best school in the country. I would think that speaks for some of the social life! Just a parent’s point of view, but from an exchange student standpoint, you need to realize you will be in the rural mountains of Virginia. Quite beautiful, but nothing truly in the vincinty. DC is a few hours away. You can get to the beaches in 4 hours. Really do your research.

JMU is known for having the best of both worlds. It is nationally recognized as being one of the top party schools in the country, but at the same time its academic programs are also nationally ranked, most quite highly. Do your research but the social life here is great, all my visiting friends rave about everything here.
