This semester I’m the social chair for the co-ed honor fraternity I’m a part of. In addition to planning our end-of-the-semester formal, I also have to plan a few social events for the chapter throughout the semester. You guys often have good ideas/past experiences, so I thought I would ask for your input! I have some ideas of my own, and I’ve certainly scoured the internet for more ideas, but there are only so many unique social events out there.
There are of course a number of outings we could do, such as to a museum or ice skating or bowling, and those suggestions are greatly appreciated. But we also plan/hold our own events on campus, and those are hard to come up with! A couple ideas I have right now are a Whose Line is it Anyway night where we play a bunch of improv games and a Minute to Win It tournament where we play games from that show. I have a committee to help me and they’ve given me some ideas, but some events aren’t all necessarily feasible, so I would welcome any ideas you might have!
What is your goal? Getting the members to know each other?
How many people do you have in your group? How many do you want to come to an event?
Can you come up with a list and use somethign like surveymonkey.com to let people vote?
Keep in mind cost and if transport is needed.
Have a variety of active/not active and on campus/off campus activities.
What type of honor fraternity is it? If say, engineering you could do some engineering games/activities like building marshmallow/toothpick towers or egg drops. If a language related one, you could have a potluck for that country’s food. For math you could have math quizzes.
Hold a dance! I went to a friend’s co-ed service fraternity dance last year and it was one of the high points of the quarter for me.
The dance was in a ballroom of a hotel near campus, and in addition to dancing there was a chest of costumes and a curtain that could be used as a background for photos. There might have been food and/or drinks too, I don’t really remember.
