Social Life at Binghamton

Hey CC peeps, So i got into binghamton for fall 2011 term, and i wanted to know if the social life at Binghamton is good. Is it easy to make good friends, and how are weekends mostly(parties, events, etc)thanks

I got EA accepted at Binghamton, Fall 2011, I would like to hear about the social life at Binghamton, as well. Trying to decide on the right school. Little nervous about going to a school in the middle of nowhere.

Congrats on your acceptance!! So far i’ve heard Binghamton is a good social school, and there alot to do. Weekends are mostly parties, events, and activities to keep you active. There always something to do if you keep yourself busy. What other schools r u debating alongside Binghamton?

Im not in Binhamton, but i know ppl who are, and i heard that theres lots of stuff to do on the weekedns- whether ur a party maniac, or something non-alcohlic, like bowling. The ppl supposedly have rlly nice, gregarious personalities, although apparently not so good looking.

that’s what ive heard, if it helps .

I agree with delmonico, except for the looks part :p! I’m a current student and there are a ton of things to do, both on campus and off. Of course, like any college, there are fraternity parties and such, but that is not the only thing to do by any means. Check out latenite.binghamton.edu, There is a bowling alley, billiards hall, cafe with live music, movies, and other different/new events every weekend that’s all on-campus and alcohol free. You’re not limited to certain type of environment.

Off-campus, Binghamton is still a big city (not like NY though), but there are things to do. Minor league baseball and hockey, a philharmonic, lots of restaurants, and more. In my experience, the only time you’ll have a dull weekend with nothing to do is if you make it that way.

Wow sounds great!!! So did you find it easy to make friends, and it;s a good thing u squashed the rumor of most girls being ugly lol!

I hear Binghamton has many Nerdy kids, and the girls aren’t that attracting…Can anyone respond on if they believe this is true, or not?

While you may discount my opinion because I am a parent…

One, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is a cliche for a reason, ya know ;)

Two, as far as I have seen on the few times I have been on the campus, my eyes have seen physical beauty in both the males and the females, yet there is the caveat of number one, lol.

Three, (my little preach for the day) - physical beauty hardly makes someone beautiful - go for intelligence and humor above all. Beauty fades, dumb is forever and a life without laughter…well that ain’t too pretty either!

Oh yay, I love nerdy people!
Can anyone comment on something I heard about a lot of people at Binghamton already knowing each other, or already having set groups of friends? I’m more hoping to go into this with everybody looking to make new friends and meet new people.

I personally don’t have any friends who are going, and I don’t particularly want them to, either.

@^ - Haha, i feel the same way. I’ve heard that it can be cliqueky(there’s no way that’s spelled correctly) - like the asians basically have their own school, and stick amongst themselves. But as for in general, im not so sure, and i def. hope not. I’ll ask around adn get back to you

Alright lol, I hope you can get back some info thats good news! If anyone else can help out it’ll be great for me, Thank you!

About Binghamton’s supposed cliquey-ness:

Yes, it is true that many people come from high schools which send a decent number of students to Binghamton. My own high school sent about 25 the year I graduated. Some people stay with their high school friends and add new ones to the already existing groups, others branch off and find different friends entirely. My friends consist of a few from the Binghamton area, some from the city, some from OOS (New Jersey, New Hampshire, etc.), one from Westchester, some from Long Island where I’m from, and some from other parts of New York. None of these people went to high school with me or knew me before I started at Binghamton. Some people are certainly cliquey, but others are not. You just have to find them.

My daughter has friends at Binghamton. One young lady and young man in particular are very nice looking kids. All of them really like the school and all are in different majors. These kids come from various areas of downstate NY.

My daughter didn’t consider the school because it doesn’t have her major.

hahahaha I vistited Binghamton and it seems to have your typical college kids looks-wise:) My friends who go to Binghamton love it though, and everyone there is really nice. In the way of the social scene, each dorm has its own special events and people are so cool with each other, that some of them leave their doors open and their friends will just come in whenever and say hi:) If you want more info, just check out the website. I can’t wait to go there this fall!

hi songbird10, thanks for the advice! i’m still debating between bing and geneseo but i’ll probably go with bing. did you get into harpur? i’m really excited in meeting all of the 2015ers!!

I’m Going to Binghamton this saturday for accepted student day! :D, pretty nervous

ArtificialCas - let us know how it goes. D and family are going on the 10th. It will be her 2nd visit, it snowed first time. It was just a regular tour with a mix of accepted and future hopefuls. D liked what she saw, and it actually became a top choice, although she had hoped to play volleyball in college (being recruited for DIII schools). She liked it enough to settle for playing club. Hopefully being around other accepted students will help her decide.
Good luck to all attending!

I did:) I am hoping to get into family psychology, or possibly industrial organizational…how about you? And me too! I am PSYCHED to be a bearcat:)

I’m undecided but i’m interested in a English or Business major! I’m really excited as well, i really hope binghamton will provide me a great 4 year experience!

I’m sure you will love it, ArtificialCas! I have heard nothing but great things about it:) You’re smart for having registered early enough for the student day…the lady told me I missed out by ONE SPOT. Just my luck:P Which of the dorm buildings is your first choice?
