How is college life at SUNY Binghamton?

It's a serious consideration, and i wanted to know a bit more about the social/student life from actual students before I'd make a final decision.

It's a serious consideration, and i wanted to know a bit more about the social/student life from actual students before I'd make a final decision.

I'm an actual freshmen at Suny Bing.. What do you want to know specifically?

The basics, how happy are you with the school?

Are you having fun?

I know the academics are pretty good, but its hard to get a description of the social scene from a college unless you get it from an actual student

go to "What are my chances" forum, and check out my stats under "Political Science Major" it should be on the second page, lemme know if you think ill get in, im applying EA

To answer your question.. im fairly happy with the school.. socially I dont have many complaints however I would say the campus needs some work in terms of aesthetics.

Parties on the weekend are the main night life.. there are 5-10 bars downtown and alot of people "chalk" their ids to get in underage. The "Rat" is the most popular club downtown and often is extremely crowded. There are 2 really good movie theaters 5 minutes away from campus. Me and my suitemates eat out alot.. there are a bunch of restaurants and shopping in vestal, ny by the campus.

Its nothing like a city... Im from queens and I came up here to get away from city life and I really like it. Where you come from plays a big role on whether or not you can adjust to this school.

Where are you from?

Id say about 10 percent or so go home on weekends and its a fairly traditional school as alot of students make their own fun.

Incubus came to campus last week and Bob Dylan will be here nov 14th. The student association tries to put n concerts for the students and then there are about 200 clubs u can join.

Get involved and you shouldnt have a problem.

I had stats a little lower than urs and i got into University of Maryland College Park, Binghamton, Albany, Buffalo, Syracuse, BU, Lehigh

It was between UMD CP and Binghamton for me because of the price and I took Binghamton because it will enable me to study abroad.. which ive always wanted to do.

Every school is different and I cannot stress how important it is to visit the school. Good luck!

That helps a lot, thank you very much

I recently visited the campus for the fall open house in October, and I did like the atmosphere, I'm a downstater so the change in scenery was nice from my perspective at least.

I also really want to study abroad, so Ill most likely make the same decision you made. It would come down the UMD CP as well, and I simply can't afford that place.

I've heard really great things about the Binghamton Speech and Debate team, I'm thinking of joining it if I go, do you know anything about it? I'm a political junkie, and am a really good debater.

How's the Poli Sci department over there anyways?
I'm glad there is a social life though, I mean I'm a dedicated student, but I also like to go out as much as I can.

If there is anything else I should know about the University, feel free to let me know

oh one more thing I forgot

Housing, what's the best dorm for a Freshmen? I know there are no "Freshmen" dorms at Binghamton, but also I heard some are unavailable to entering Freshmen, anyways what's the best one out there that i should try to get into? I'm applying EA, so hopefully I'll be able to get housing quicker than others

bump...........

bump..................... anyone?

The most modern are in this order:

Mountainview
CIW
Hinman
Newing
Dickinson

It all depends on preference tho because they each have their ups and downs.

Newing- too many frat/sorority long islanders
dickinson- not modern, nice group of kids tho
ciw- liberals
hinman- all suite, no corridors
mtnview- amazing rooms, long walk during the winter.

Hi,

I have a couple of questions about SUNY Bingamton:
1. What is the workload like?
2. How is it in terms of a Computer Science / Engineering major?
3. Do they have good sports clubs?

Thanks.

AFireInside, where in Queens are you from? I'm from Flushing and a good friend of mine (who graduated from Bayside) is a freshman living in Mtn View this year. I've visited the dorm, its absolutely amazing but definitely quite a trek up that hill.
