<p>Hi! I was admitted as a sophomore to Andover and I am so beyond excited, but as September draws near, I'm worrying about the little things more and more. </p>
<p>I don't know if this is actually the case, but these schools do seem like bubbles. I'm moving from a life that allowed me to interact with and become close to people who I didn't go to school with and see every day. Are we going to be locked in just the school's community or is there room to branch out? </p>
<p>Off topic, but I'm also moving from a more tropical place - our winters get down to the lower fifties at worst. I'm planning on waiting until I get up there to buy supplies, but any suggestions that I wouldn't think of as an innocent Southerner? </p>
<p>Bring an additional blanket or quilt that is warm, and a pair of fuzzy socks.</p>
<p>Congrats on getting into Andover, @pabound17 ! I live in NYC and have been to Massachusetts so I know what the temperatures are like. Be prepared for very cold weather. Average temperatures in the winter can be in the 20s and 30s (Fahrenheit). On very cold nights it can go down to the teens, with wind chills that can cause frostbite (rare, but it does happen). Sorry if I make it sound scary, but if you live in New England, you would know many of us complain about the cold winters! Just make sure that you can dress in layers, so a tshirt or tank would be fine with a sweater, jacket, and coat. I don’t think you need to bring an extremely thick winter coat just yet because you can get that during thanksgiving break. Also you will have to go to classes in basically any kind of snow condition, so make sure to have water proof, warm winter boots.</p>
<p>Sorry I can’t answer your main question, because I, too, am going to be a new boarding school student this year. 
This is a new experience for both of us.</p>
<p>Oh, I just thought of something else. Go to modell’s or another sporting goods store and pick up some hand and foot warmers, they really work!</p>
