or better yet, is attending/has attended boarding school...

whats the fashion like in the schools? what would girls where just everyday to class? (this is for girls lol, haha i know this may not be the right time to ask this but hey if i by some chance happen to get in then, wardrobe is on my priority list!)
right now, my school has very casual dress: jeans and tight tee basically covers it and if its cold then a jacket with flats, flip flops, Vans, Etnies, or occasionally tennis shoes...i get the impression that this might be too casual for boarding school.
i asked all my interviewers about dress code, and they didn't give me much information...so coming from a school of very casual dress, i would like at least some idea of what most girls where!!

It really depends on the school. Some schools have a formal dress code in which case your current dress would not work. Others have a casual dress code, or none at all in which case your current dress would be fine.
What schools are you talking about?
Also, many of the schools have their student handbooks online that outline their specific dress codes in detail. You might want to check that out too.

im pretty sure that in the "big envelope" you get when you are accepted, the school's dress code (if there is one) will be in a handbook or something. when you get that (good luck!) then you should ask the people on this board, they will be able to give you better advice. if it isnt in the package, check the websites of the schools.

My daughter goes to one of the top ten and they wear fairly nice clothes, no jeans, no tennis shoes. Now it is freezing so there are a lot of kids in layers, sweaters and pants with boots, ugg and sorel are popular as far as that goes. Fashion in the dorms is very, very laid back, lots and lots of sweats and slippers or flip flops. If you go next year, consider investing in several medium cost coats instead of one really expensive one that you wear everyday because you will get really sick of that one coat and winter goes on, and on, and on...of course that is if cost matters. Most kids have a Northface coat or jacket in the mix. She does wear nice cords (not worn out I mean) many days. Dress code is stricter with the guys than with the girls at her particular school. And don't forget the cute mittens and hats..

At the co-ed schools we visited with a formal dress code, it is definately more "formal" for the guys. However, I still don't know what schools the op is talking about. There are several we went to with a casual dress code and one without any...so what she described would be fine at those.

i go to boarding school in socal (webb) and there is no dress code. everyone wears jeans everyday. girls are allowed to wear flip flops, but boys have to tuck in shirts and have a belt. we don't need winter coats because it never dips below 45 degrees in wintertime.

Our (private school) dress code is semi formal, where we wear a polo and khaki, gray or black colored pants. The guys have to tuck their shirts in and wear a belt.

I suppose it is probably a bit similar to the boarding school dress codes?

Yes, that is similar to some. Many have a no jeans policy, and shirts with a collar. The more formal ones have shirt and tie for boys, some have blazers and then the girls it is a layered top thing.
There is at least one or two schools that have no dress code at all.

clothing doesn't really matter. as long as you are comfortable. when you get here, you may see a brand that you particularly like and then go ahead and buy it. but seriously, you don't need a polo ralph lauren and lacoste wardrobe to go to a prep school.

Andover (my interviewer told me they were relatively casual...she said when she went, jeans were allowed...ID REALLY LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE!!)
Exeter (i heard they were really formal...ughh)
Hotchkiss (also fairly formal..am i right??)
Lawrenceville (no idea at all)
Taft (also clueless...)

im not extremely highclass and my wardrobe right now is
hollister
a&f and a&f kids
zara
american eagle
a little juicy
a little ralph
shoes are very casual..many flats, vans/etnies, soccer cleats (haha =]), one pair of dress shoes
no fancy lacoste or tommy or too many famous designers..i wish! haha

so my point is i dont think these can get me through the fashion of boarding school...am i right?

I've seen a lot of boarding kids with hollister, ae and af..
Many say that they are "preppy"...
Which I disagree.
THey are casual.
I have random stuff.
I have to go shopping because a lot of my clothes are outgrown, but I do have a fair amount of RL and J. Crew.
My mom wears a lot of J. Crew and RL, she like's the "it's simple" thing.

Do girls schools have more loose dress codes than coeds?
