Social Life at Lafayette

I apologize in advance, because i'm sure that this question has been asked a million times before, but i'm going to be a freshman at Lafayette this year, and I just have two questions to ask: Is it true that everyone basically only wears brand labels (like Abercrombie, Prada, Tiffany's, etc.), and will I be seen weird/out of touch if I don't?

Also, how is the diversity at Lafayette? I know that there are special groups, like the International Students Association and the Association of Black Collegians, but do people actually hang out with students of other races? Or does everyone seem to seperate themselves racially and hang out amongst themselves?

Don’t worry about asking what you think are stupid questions or questions which have probably ben answered 100 times before. That’s why these current students / alumni are here - coz someone answered these questions for us and now we’re passing along that info to someone else.

No everyone is not an undercover Abercombie, Prada or Gucci Model. Wear whatever makes you comfortable. No one cares honestly what brand your clothes are. Half the people on campus spend the day in sweatpants anyway.
You will meet some people who are obsessed with expensive brands but that’s to be expected at any college you go too. You will not be weird or out of touch.

The answer to this depends alot on your attitude. You will find groups of people that only hang out with others from their ethnicity, you will see people who have a ton of friends from different races and people in between. On the whole it’s a very open, very inclusive campus. The key thing is don’t force yourself to do something or hang out with a group coz you see everyone else doing the same thing.
Lafayette hasn’t been an quick as some other colleges to handle issues of diversity in the past but over the two years I’ve ben there, I’ve seen some definite progress.

Thank you ryanshoff, you’ve been very helpful. :)

Is the social life at Lafayette largely around frats? Are there other things to do on/off campus?
