Hey gang. Lately I’ve been really interested in Northwestern (probably engineering undergrad), but I’ve heard that the social life is weirdly cliquey and dominated by Greeklife. Coming from an extremely cliquey small-town high school, I’d really like to avoid immature cliqueiness in college, so is it really as bad as NU students make it out to be? Please only answer if you’re currently attending Northwestern or have graduated in the past 5 years.
I’m a current NU student and I don’t think that’s true at all. There are certain niches, but very little exclusion. Even the greek system, though it is technically exclusive, is very non competitive. Honestly, NU is just too big to have cliques and what you’re probably hearing about is just friend groups. Everyone I’ve met here is incredibly kind and open to making new friends.
I mean it is very Greek but it’s not like if you dont want to go Greek then you would be alienated. There’s a lot of stuff to do everywhere
It’s a large percentage greek, but a large amount of the greek people aren’t super “fratty.” There are some who think it makes them the coolest person around, but most people realize it’s just another thing they enjoy doing.
