Social Life at Phillips Exeter

Hello,

I just finished my application for Phillips Exeter. I think I have a shot at getting in, but if I don’t I won’t be completely devastated. My biggest concern with the school is how rigorous it is going to be. I know it is going to be challenging, that’s why I want to attend, but will I have time for other things (parties and such)? This aspect doesn’t make or break my decision on attending, but I’d just like to hear from someone who has gone the school on what your social life was like. Was there time to do fun things? Were there any parties, on or off campus? By the way, I am planning on playing 2-3 sports if I attend, so I know that free time will be precious. I appreciate any responses, thanks!

I’m currently a junior (upper) at PEA. Yes, there’s a lot of work. But there’s still time to do fun things. My dorm has an Xbox in the common room, and I’m able to play that a fair amount on the weekends. Parties are a no. Pretty strict rules. It’s very risky to go drinking or doing drugs, cause you’ll easily be kicked out if/when caught. Sports take up a lot of time, so be prepared for that. I play lacrosse, I played soccer my first two years but quit because of the time commitment. There is still time to do clubs and such. Good luck on admissions!

Thanks man, I hope I get in. And that doesn’t sound too bad. Is there any time to go to Boston on the weekends or is that a no as well? As long as I can balance some fun along with the work I will be fine!
