well i'm trying to decide between UCD, UCI, UCSD,and UCB...i'm gonna base my decision on the social life of the campuses. i'm a transfer student majoring in biology. which campus woudl be the most fun. if you went there please fill me in on your experience. so far i heard UCSD has no social life and for some reason i think UCB has none either.

i couldnt tell you where the best social life, but berkeley is a great academic school

Socially, Davis is the best without a doubt. If that's ALL that's shaping your decision from here on....then go there.

Except Davis is in cow land.

I know LOTS of transfers at SD who love it and have had no problem with social stuff. I think that if you're active in trying to meet people there you'd have no problem. It just won't be handed to you like it's handed to freshmen, but really, that goes for transfers anywhere.

UCI, however, is desolate. 24/7.

Can't speak for Davis or Berkeley.

I've heard that SD is not a very social place. Its a beautiful setting but most students live off in the SD area so its more of a commuter school than one where everyone lives right on or near campus.

I think except UCD none of them are social places...

well dang it. i guess i'll just have to make due...and bring the party with me? j/k.

It's UCSB. No question. Just look at the other threads.

in the greek system at berkeley there is ALOT of stuff going on.. but apparently there are very few people who party so you see the same people at every one

by social life, i don't mean like frat parties where everyone just gets wasted all the time. i guess i mean like cool interesting people who are not all studious androids, thats all. i'm sure theres cool people at everyschool. i guess i'm looking for diversity.

I think that San Diego or Berkeley are your best options. There's nothing to do in Davis but get wasted, and diversity at UCI is extremely limited. For Bio, SD is probably the best bet (although I admittedly know little about Berkeley's bio program, even though I recall that it's also quite good). I think that it comes down to where you think you want to be. La Jolla is awesome. Can't say the same for Berkeley, but I'm biased.

Depending on how you look at it, Davis first, Berkeley second. It doesn't matter if Davis is cow territory, that's one of the main reasons why it's so social: there ain't much else to do. That said, Davis culture is sort of black and white. It's either laid-back, social, nerdy sort of people or people that are always getting wasted and partying. Definately cliquish. Berkeley has an interesting scene for obvious reasons, but I wouldn't call it as socially friendly/open as Davis.

ucsd might not be the best party school but its in a great city, and on the beach. and the hard core party ucsd ppl just commute to sdsu parties.

irvine is basically a commuter school, and half the campus is empty on weekends...there's plenty to do in surrounding orange county though!

no way, i live in OC and i hate the irvine area. its DEAD. very suburbia. nothing to do after 10 unless you already have friends in the area and just chill w/ them. if you wanna go out after 10, you need to head to another area.

UCSB and Davis by far the others dont even compare seriously.

Yeah but SB wasn't one of the options he listed.

Just saying.

hailtothethief, what do YOU mean by a social life? Every campus will offer a social life. You may have to put more into it at Davis, Irvine and San Diego than at Berkeley, which offers the entire San Francisco Bay Area as a playground.

Remember, it is not the responsibility of the UC system to entertain you!

but SD offers the entire sd area as a playground. including on the beach campus.
