Social Life: UCSC v. UCSB

I know that UCSB is a big party school, but what about UCSC-do kids just smoke weed and hangout or do they really party?

I think all schools party, its jus that UCSB parties hard!

My impression is UCSC has a much heavier weed-smoking, flannel shirt wearing set. UCSB, more Southern California beach culture. More stress put on appearances, better looking people -- ie, more superficial seeming, perhaps.

But talk to someone who really knows. These are my impressions based on meeting graduates, having visited the campuses briefly.

ok i have never been to UCSC but i have herd for feinds that have friends that go there or that have visited that lot of people go home on the weekends and that the majority of partying is smkoing weed. I go to UCSB and it is defianlty a party school, not many people go home on the weekends and the way the school is position with IV it is meant for a huge party town. You can find all types of parties if you want. I definalty has the socal beach atmoshpere and weather, but that doesnt mean that were a superficial school. I really dont sense much of that, a little with the frats and soroities but for the most part eveyone gets along and has a good time

That's not true. Santa Cruz is definitely not a commuter school. Smoking weed is probably the most popular activity, but like most colleges, almost everyone drinks. There are lots of parties at UCSC, but UCSB is one of the best party schools in the country.

Were you drunk when you were posting?

Worried Student, do you know if the UCSC parties are usually on campus or off campus?

Both. People party in the dorms and there are house parties of campus. Most people who live on campus just party in the dorms, but the RA's are pretty strict, so you have to keep it quiet and small. Off campus parties are more like small social gatherings. If you really want huge parties that are easy to hook up at, go to UCSB.
