Social life?

I was just wondering what types of things that students at Middlebury do for fun over the weekends? I'm interested in the school but since it's in rural Vermont, I'm not sure if that's the right environment for me. I mean, I don't need to be surrounded by constant parties to be happy, but I want there to be things to do.

I have the same question, so I hope yours gets answered!

Plenty to do and see. Vermont is chock full of cows just waiting to be tipped. Grass grows, snow melts, paint dries.

do you like skiing? seriously; that's essential.

Yes, there's plenty to do at Middlebury. I attended two different graduate schools at large universities (one large Pac-10, and one large Ivy League) after graduation and found no difference in terms of immediate opportunities. Now, sure, there may be more bars in other college towns, but you're not even going to be able to enjoy those for your first two years anyway. The administration goes to great lengths to bring in entertainment. In my four years I didn't spend a single weekend wishing there were something to do. Trust me you won't be bored. In addition to all the outside entertainment brought in, the great outdoors are literally right outside your dorm. I thought being in Middlebury offered the best of both worlds.

There's no off campus night-life to speak of, especially if you're under 21 (there's also a student-run night club on campus). However, that doesn't mean that there's nothing to do. There are always events on the weekend, both student-organized and school-organized. Other than the usual dorm parties and smaller events, there are things like movies in Dana Auditorium on Fridays and Saturdays, some great classical and contemporary music performances in the Concert Hall, hockey games to be cheered in the winter, the annual 80s concert/dance in McCullough... you get the idea. I'm never at a loss for what to do. And yes, skiing, hiking--pretty much anything to do with the outdoors--is right there waiting for you to go do it (these are social events too! with friends or the outdoors club).
