I really like Middlebury, but I'm concerned about the social scene. Do Middlebury kids party on Thursday, Friday, Saturday? What are the parties like?

I know academics take first priority, and I'm totally fine with that. I just wanted to get a perspective from alumni or current students on what to expect.

Also, is Middlebury an overall fun college? I want to work hard, but have a great time too.

Someone who has been a student there more recently should probably respond to this question, but I strongly remember the fact that everyone I spoke to on my tour said, “at Middlebury we like to work hard and play hard.” It was something we always bragged about while we were there. I know things change over time, but it was such a big aspect of the Middlebury culture that I’d be surprised if it had changed much over the years.

My S is a current student and he used those exact words “work hard, play hard”…I would have posted them myself but they seemed a bit too cliche. He spends a lot of time working, but also manages to go out and ride his bike, ski, socialize etc. In the end, time management is a critical skill that I think most kids at top tier colleges perfect.

Students tend to work hard during the week, and let off steam in a variety of ways over the weekend, Friday and Saturday.
There is some use of alcohol, not a big drug scene, and also other activities like sports, Politics,hiking/skiing, and arts/performance. Some kids go up to Burlington, but there is plenty to do on campus.

I was sure a couple of drinking citation have already been given out to freshmen (in just the week of orientation)… LOL, but trust me, every1 seems to work really hard when class starts so.
