I was just wondering how the social scene was at nyu. I'm very much into the party scene...I like to drink and like other people who enjoy the same. I just transferred from a community college into fordham and they seem pretty strict. They seem to have a tight lid on parties, etc. People don't seem to drink a lot in dorms and they don't really seem like party people. How is nyu? I mean I'm very focused on my studies but I like to let loose on the weekends, go to clubs and party...and I like to b around people who are the same.

Well Fordham is a Jesuit school so I wouldn’t be surprised. You will find all types of kids at NYU, although being near all the Village bars I would say most NYU kids aren’t strange to drinking.

Yeah, if you party around the Union Square or Village area, you’ll encounter lots of NYU kids. People don’t party much in the dorms, it’s either in bars or in someone’s apartment (off-campus).

No partiers at Fordham? You must be SEVERELY misinformed. They’re nuts up there.

NYU likes to have fun, too. Most people party to varying degrees. You will find people ranging from rich kids with fakes who go to exclusive clubs every weekend and drop $100 on bottles, to kids who just go to local bars/clubs and stuff, to kids who drink in dorms, to kids who don’t drink at all. You’ll find your crowd here.

Ill be uptown at the lincoln center campus, but yes I have been told by everyone I’ve spoken to thus far that fordham is very strict and no one really parties inside their dorms. I was told that residential life officers are really strict on in dorm parties and they make routine checks in the middle of the night to make sure no ones throwing parties…especially with alchohol. But who knows that’s just what I’ve been told maybe I was informed by goodies who don’t know much on the party scene.

I agree completely with nyyankees2012 - you’ll find all types here. My advice is be open-minded: you might not be into the drinking or drugs scene, but plenty of people are and it’s best not to judge. Or if you really like to party and other types prefer to stay home Thursday night and play scrabble, that’s their business :P

As for Fordham, they do like to party up there! At least at the Rose Hill campus, I have a bunch of friends there. And I imagine it’s like NYU - no one parties in dorms, people go out. We’re in NYC for a reason, might as well take advantage of it.
