Social Scene

I am considering applying to the School of Foreign Service and love the curriculum, but I am not too sure about the social scene. I have done the information sessions and campus tour but all I got about the social life were the stats. From what I have heard thus far, greek life is not big and clubs are where most people socialize. I also got mixed vibes on the student body. Georgetown has appeared on some lists of the “preppiest colleges” in the US, is that accurate? Do the different schools (ex. SFS) generally keep to themselves or integrate with each other? Is it a “party school”, a work hard no play school, or somewhere in between? In general what is life on campus like, apart from academics, and what kind of people make up the student body? Any input is appreciated, thank you!

I think it depends upon what you are looking for. Just going off of what my freshman son has told us, but he has gotten integrated into university life very well (and I would say he was somewhat anti-social in high school). True, there is no greek life, but he immediately got involved in clubs and his dorm floor also does stuff together. He has friends in all the schools. They are in study groups together and will study together all day but go out or do club activities at night. On weekends they may go see a movie together or see the sights in DC together. He really enjoys his classmates and says it is just like high school–some jocks, some crazy smart kids; some serious students, some partiers; some rich, some poor; etc. I think the “preppiest colleges” moniker may just be click bait on some website. Our son is the consummate trend follower and his college wardrobe looks like it was picked by Mark Zuckerberg. Nothing but jeans or shorts and t-shirts or hoodies except for one navy blazer and khakis.
