Social Scene

Hi everyone!
So I have been debating between Smith and the University of California at Davis for the past few weeks. Both schools have great academics, and now I feel that I have to look at the social aspects as well. And that is where Smith worries me.

I’ve never had a boyfriend, nor have I ever even been on a date (yikes lol). And I’ve always thought of college as the place where I would be able to do that. Obviously i will not put it in front of academics, but it is an important aspect of life that I want to take into consideration. I’m from California, and know no one at Smith (most people don’t even know what Smith is here). I also do not drive, and so that could be a problem when trying to visit UMass or other schools in the area. So, I’m wondering if this combined with the women’s college environment will limit me from finding the sort of social aspects I want in college?

Hi @KatieRick! I will be going to Smith in the fall and this was something that had bothered me too. If possible, visit Smith. I was worried that I would be stuck in this small town with no men until I visited. Northampton such a cool town and it seems to attract visitors from all the 5 colleges. It’s the complete opposite of what I was imagining.
As far as a car goes, first years can’t have one on campus anyway and from what I hear you don’t need one. The free bus will take you to Umass, Hampshire or Amherst where you can meet plenty of guys and maybe find your first boyfriend! I’m super psyched to get there!
