I just wanted to start a thread to allow those who have applied to graduate programs such as anthropology, geography, history, political science, and sociology, to be able to share information about their application process and results. In this thread lets share stats, graduate programs applied to, application outcomes, interview experiences, program evaluations etc. I applied to masters programs for sociology- DePaul, Loyola-Chicago, St. Johns, UNC-Greensboro, and Temple. My stats include a 3.58 gpa overall and a 3.61 in sociology. My GRE scores were 630V, 620Q, 5W.

History is in the humanities, not social sciences. Just sayin'. ;)

Hi there. i applied Sociology. GRE: 630V 720Q 6.0A. Top of sociology at top British university, 3 university prizes for academic achievement. Soon to have publications.

Rejected Michigan, Harvard, Berkeley, Wisconsin, UCLA
Accepted Cornell
Waiting: London School of Economics, Cambridge

Bit disappointed to be rejected almost everywhere and was a bit surprised with my stats. I know its competitive environment but equally really happy with the offer from Cornell. Fantastic program and great stipend. Now just got to decide if I want to move to the states or stay in Britain

I've applied to various programs in international relations/security studies. Have a 3.32 or 3.43 GPA as far as admissions are concerned, not sure as my transcripts were sent out the day before fall semester grades were finalized (3.32 is the latest GPA btw). 590V/630Q/6.0.

Hoping to hear back from schools soon. I'm looking at going to school part-time while working full time, so anxious to hear back from one of the DC schools so I can start applying for jobs up there (would like to go to school in DC).

I'm anxious to hear from any anthropology grad applicants, as that is my major and I will be applying for grad school either this upcoming fall or if I take a year off (more likely) then applying in fall 2009.

@ DeepSeekPhD

History is one of those fields, depending on your area of study, that can be considered a social science. For example, social and cultural history. It also varies by program. Univ of Chicago for instance considers history to be a social science.

^ Yup. Social science for me. I do a lot of social/cultural history.

This year is crazy.

Historians use many theories developed in the social sciences, especially anthropology and sociology. And many of the social sciences use history to make their theories.

Actually, some schools even consider anthropology to be in the humanities. So it's all just a matter of opinion. Does it really have an impact on the field? I do not think so.

Anyway, let's get back to the original question - Social Science Applicants 2008.
