Poli Sci/Social Science PhD 2007 Admissions Results

seems like most of the listings on the overall admissions post are for science. thought i'd start one up just for poli sci (i think there are a lot of us on this board) and other social science phd applicants. if this seems unecessary, i'll delete the diary. anywho...so i'll start off. applied to 8 PhD programs in political science (IR-focus): columbia, princeton, chicago, mit, georgetown, gwu, american sis, and umd. so far, only one result, a rejection from chicago. others?

rejected from american SIS today...man, this is not looking good.

FP06 -- I have a feeling you'll be just fine. For my part, I was worried that I might not be accepted into ANY Ph.D. programs, because of certain less than stellar parts of my record, and because I was applying right from the B.A. On the other hand, I had a publication and a few conferences to show for myself. Initially I was going to apply to 20 programs but cut it down to 13 (my professors still thought that was ridiculous). It seems to me that if you applied to 8, you should expect at least 1-2 good offers to come your way. I'll definitely post what I hear from Georgetown, etc. Good luck.

just got the rejection email from princeton.

I got rejected from Columbia's Ph.D. today. But, I'd already gotten into my first choice, the London School of Economics, so it is a minor blow to my ego at best.

Pheonix,

Are you getting any type of Financial Aid at the LSE?

I didn't get a graduate merit, but I still have to submit the scholarship form. Its not due in until the end of April, so I have some time. I'm doubtful on the monetary front, though.

Pheonix,

Not to rain on your parade, since LSE is a fantastic school, but how do you plan on paying for doctoral studies if you don't get funding? Honest question.

Because of my current circumstances (husband is stationed at Ft. Hood), I only applied to those two programs. I was wondering if anyone has heard from either one yet?

Wealthy parents? I'm only doing a year there for an MA for now. I'm still not sure where I'll do my doctoral work yet, but money isn't a terrible issue, fortunately.
