I realized that DS did not add his middle initial or his ss# to his account on the college board website. His school transcript includes both. Since he has a fairly common name, should he at least have included his social security # to his account? I know during one college visit when they were looking up his name during registration, there were two kids with the same first and last name. I’m a little paranoid when it comes to web security since someone in my family already had their identity stolen. Should we add his ss# to the college board website to avoid any mix ups? Anyone know how secure it is? Do colleges match names with birthdates and addresses?
I’d put it in if you still can. It is a headache if there is a mismatch. You are going to give it out a lot of times in this process, and will be sending your tax returns in, too. No one here knows for sure about their security, of course. I have not heard that they have been hacked. (yet)
Well, they can’t seem to keep their exams secure. Can’t say about the rest of the info.
All I can say what happens when you have an issue that is tough to resolve, sometimes the HS college counselor can really do wonders. For some reason, S ended up with 2 separate accounts and the CBoard said there was nothing that could be done to merge the two accounts. Fortunately, we thought to speak with the counselor and he had a special phone number and was able to get things resolved very promptly so that we don’t have to do 2 accounts and have to pay twice as much to get things sent out.
Hmm… I just saw a thread where adding the social security number on the college board web site and not including it on the test caused a problem. The college board ended up creating two accounts just like HImom mentioned. I wonder if this will just create more problems, and I’m better off just leaving it as is.
