Sociology Major | UCLA vs UCSB Honors

I had my heart set on UCSB since I learned it has the #1 Sociology program in the country and is an all-around fantastic school. Then, I got into UCLA, which I really hadn’t expected or considered. So after a while I decided, maybe I should take advantage of this opportunity to go to UCLA (city life, better food, smarter students, still in top 5 for Soc). But after I decided on that, UCSB gave me honors (Priority enrollment, faculty advising, library locker). Now I’m torn.

What should I choose? People have been telling me if I visit and gauge the “vibe” of the schools then I’ll know, but I’ve been debating this 50/50 for the past 2 weeks.

I’ve also read that the income projection is not statistically affected by which school you actually choose to attend (if i got into berkeley but choose to go to SDSU, I will probably end up making the same amount $$). Anyone have any advice?

Listen to these people. They are 100% correct. You can go through it all on paper logically, or in your head intellectually, but you will likely KNOW when you visit which is right for you.

I was an ocean/beach loving kid, grew up sailing and some surfing, and was absolutely sure UCSB was going to have the best vibe for me out of all the UCs. I visited UCSB first for this reason, liked it, went to UCLA next not expecting to like it at all, and it was all over. Hands down UCLA. Not that I think I’d have been unhappy at UCSB, but the vibe was completely different and I instantly felt like I just fit at UCLA.

Both are great in their own way and you may feel completely the opposite, but you won’t know until you visit. After that, I’m sure the decision will be easy.

Best of luck in making your decision!
