Sociology vs. Social Ecology vs. Psychology Social Behavior

UC Irvine is one of my future university options. I am very much interested in studying human behaviour. My future career would most likely circulate around these areas: business organisations, marketing and real estate. I am planning to get an MBA, so I think that majoring in a more specific major could be a plus factor and gain me more skills. Which of the 3 majors about human behaviour in UCI would be most suitable for someone pursuing a career in Business.

Overall, none of them will make much difference at all, so wait until you get there and start taking the classes and see which is more interesting to you. There will be overlap in the classes between those three areas.

In fact, if you are going to get an MBA your major won’t matter that much- it will really only matter for what jobs you can get when you graduate- and that more because of the internships you will do. As posted on your other thread, your work experience is the key.

As it happens, I am speaking from experience here: I didn’t take a single business course in college. I got a job in sales after college, moved over into marketing and advertising with the same company, and then decided to do an MBA (which my company part-sponsored). Based on my work experience, I had no trouble getting into (and doing well in) a good MBA program. The only advantage that my fellow MBA students who had done business courses as undergrads had was that they had done more accountancy, so I worked a tiny bit harder than they did for the first couple weeks in that subject. Otherwise, no obvious advantage.

@annissaB Hey Annissa, Collegemom was spot on with her explanation. Your undergraduate major doesn’t really affect your pursuit of a MBA degree. Social Ecology isn’t a major at UCI, it’s a school. Personally, between Sociology and Psychology and Social Behavior, I’d go with PSB. Take a look at the class catalog for both majors and look at the degree requirements. Explore the school’s website. See what looks more appealing to you.
