Hello everyone, I have a few questions about Software engineering. Is Software Engineering similar to computer science? Is software engineering a strong and well known program at San Jose State University because I am looking into that college? What companies mostly hire Software Engineers? Does San Jose State University have an advantage when someone is looking for a job in the STEM fields? Thank You for everyone who replies to me
You can compare the course work for the two majors here:

A better optiom for jobs and preparation for computer and software engineering is UCSC.
Software Engineering is basically CS with a specific focus, leaving out some of the other big fields in CS. Personally, I would recommend CS, even for people who want to do Software Engineering - it’s good to have a better handle on the whole field, even if your work will mostly be in software. A good way to have both is to simply focus your electives on software development.
Agree that a generalized CS major is preferable. However, CS is a more selective major than SE at SJSU, so some students may list CS as their first choice major but only get into their second choice major of SE. Or they may have gotten into SJSU as undeclared or some other major and find that their GPA is enough to switch to SE but not CS.
