Solicitation letters from real estate agents and their clients

We sold our house 2 weeks ago. Went on the market on Friday morning with offers due on Monday at 5. 65 showings and a very busy open house later we had 14 offers. Got WAY over asking (even WAY over what we hoped to get) no inspections, contingencies, etc. Closing day after tomorrow. Houses here sell quickly unless there is an issue.

@newpreironic my dad just sold his house in the Eanes Independent School District in December. It was a beautiful house, but it’s already been torn down to make room for a bigger house. :frowning: He got a ridiculous amount of money for what amounted to a house lot.

Re: Judge blocks Oregon ban on homebuyer ‘love letters’ | kgw.com

Suppose you get an honest homebuyer love letter:

“Hi, I am a Wall Street plutocrat who wants to turn your house into a rental.
”

Does it really matter if such a homebuyer love letter mentions the person’s race or other protected-from-illegal-discrimination characteristic?

People with young families are actually moving into our neighborhood, they are the ones bid up the prices, not some Wall Street plutocrat.
Our neighbors and I couldn’t believe the price of some of the homes that are sold.
What annoyed me is not the letters, but I got realtors ringing my door bell demanding to speak to us, I had to shoo them away. I don’t open my front door to strangers even if they are realtors.

You’re taking this letter way too personally. They drop those letters off at every house on the block. You were not targeted.

Hmm?
Addressed personally to both my husband and I with our address. They knew a LOT about our property that wasn’t in the MLS system. It is a nice lot with nice views.
Musta been those damn drones!

Well then it’s flattering. They like what you have and want to know if you’re interested in selling. It’s still not a personal attack on you, your age, your future. Just a question.

Also, it sounds lovely. Can I buy it? :grinning:

Why bother to look at the house if they are just going to destroy it??

I don’t believe the buyer came inside. It’s a developer. He sent his design team to evaluate the lot. The sale almost fell through when the architect said that only a 4,400 square foot house would fit on the lot instead of 4,800.

Wow! What a waste!

We put up a No Solicitors sticker at our front door years ago. It does wonders. Pretty much shut down anyone coming to our door uninvited. Prior we got people knocking at the door all the time. Recently had someone who knocked and when I opened the door he said he just saw the sign and was leaving. I told him thanks and closed the door.

We did too and they pretended not to read English or the sign, so we took it down. I even called the local police about this.

A business that walks door to door must register with the city. City makes it clear that ignoring those signs leads to permit being revoked. Our police are so bored the likely would love to chase violators down and out of the city.

Our House2 was about to become a RE “roadkill,” but luckily for us, we were first to make an offer. I have no idea how on earth we were able to buy this place contingent on inspection and even knock some $$ off after the inspection! After we got the ball rolling, a backup offer appeared (the backup buyer wanted the land). But a contract is a contract
.

Wow. I like that. Wild West out here.

We are about to put a house on the market. Will report back in 2 weeks!
