Some advice...and Thank You CC!

Dear current applicants, future applicants, future students, future WL and future rejected applicants,

I haven’t been on CC since March 11, and I decided that I want to leave a parting message…maybe I’ll be back (I really like the new UI that CC made)

I know the feeling. That feeling of anticipation, the hype, the excitement, the anxiety, and the pressure leading up to March 10th. I’m positive that not a day will go by in my life that I’ll take a moment on March 10th to realize what that day means for so many people around the world.

It’s the big day. You’ve been waiting for it since January 15th (or the 31st). You’re logged into all your portals, inbox ready to refresh. You’re twitching, tapping your leg, fidgeting, glancing at the clock, and nervously biting your lips and tongue.

As so many people on this forum have said ( @buuzn03 @Atria @stargirl3 @skieurope @PhotographerMom @ChoatieMom @preppedparent @CaliPops @SevenDad @Center ) that whatever the result, it isn’t the end of your world. It isn’t the end of your future. Some people go their whole lives without knowing that boarding school is a thing. I say that all of you are worthy of a pat on the back and deserve a round of applause for all your efforts and hard work this cycle. You’re all wonderful people, and any school would be lucky to have you.

Boarding school is NOT the only path to success.

I can’t guarantee that you’ll be taken off the waitlist. Nor can I guarantee that you’ll stay on the waitlist. That’s in the hands of the AO’s and God.

This is my waitlist story. (It has a happy ending)

I was waitlisted by the same school for the third time in three years on March 10th. They confirmed that they wouldn’t have any space for me on April 10th.

That’s three admissions cycles.
Around 1000 days.
24,000 hours.

The three admissions cycles that ended with the same letter, addressed to the same person, beginning with the same sentence, taught me a valuable life lesson each time.

Perseverance.

Just try, try, and try again. When everything you’ve tried fails, you still get up and try again. You might want to give up at the halfway mark. But push it past that hill and then you’ve come too far to give up.

You’re never done. This applies to anything that you will ever attempt in life. I have a lot of life left to live, and so do all of you. Whenever I race, from the start line to when I cross the finish line, I work myself to the extent where I’m unable to talk properly when I cross the finish line. If I’m able to form a legible sentence in the ten minutes after a race, I didn’t give it everything I had.

Your M10 letters are NOT an accurate forecast of how your life will go. This goes for all accepted, waitlisted, and rejected students. Your future is what YOU make it. Everyday, YOU decide what time you’ll get out of bed, and everyday, YOU decide what you’ll attempt to accomplish, and what choices YOU will make.

Life is only as hard as you make it.

School is only as hard as you make it.

Try your absolute best. Day in and day out.

From the bottom of my heart, I wish each and every single one of you the best and nothing but the absolute best in all your future endeavors.

I’ll leave you with my favorite quote.

“And in the end, its not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” -Abraham Lincoln

Enjoy life. Live. Laugh. Smile. Boarding school is not the only pathway to success. Do something you love doing. Wake up looking forward to what awaits you. Go to sleep satisfied with what you accomplished.

CC, Thank You.

P.S I was accepted to two schools, one of which I am absolutely in love with right now and will attend next year!!!

(And a special thanks to @skieurope for being an awesome mod! )

@AllSmiles2 I was (still am) one of your biggest cheerleaders! This is a great summation and I hope future applicants take this to heart!!! You are going to be successful in all you do and I can’t wait to get glimpses of your journey from time to time! Thank you for this feedback—and good luck!!!

Amen, brother. Have a great time!

Hear, hear! So happy for you @AllSmiles2! And I kudos for giving back to the next round of applicants and living up to your screen name. Cheers!

@AllSmiles2 Your post should be required reading for all BS applicants. Happy that all worked out for you. A for effort on your part. Who said there is no such thing as luck that luck is really where opportunity meets preparedness? Life is full of twists and turns and ups and downs and if I had given up at my first rejection, I’d never be a physician today. We have to lose this conceptualization that your identity is wrapped up in the status of your boarding school or college. My hat’s off to you. Bravo. Well stated. Good luck in your next challenge.

@AllSmiles2 wow this was truly a great read. I’ve never been more focused on a CC post. That was really well written, and it really is something every boarding school applicant should read. You really summed up everything perfectly, and I think both your post and your perseverance deserves an applaud.
Btw congratulations on your 2 acceptances, and good luck
