Some College Suggestions please! Did i screw my self too hard?

Hey guys!

So i just got back from a college tour which visited Hampshire, UMASS, Amherst College, Dartmouth, Holy Cross and Clark.Have to admit most of these schools liberal and conservation, were very impressive. And i loved the five school coercion opportunity. I also love the North Eastern, New england area for colleges, but i am also open to other areas. Prefer colleges with a nice campus and dormitory. Population isnt that important but not too big please :).

So here are my stats :(

GPA : 2.9-3.0 :( unweighted

SAT: 2060, 670 math, 710 writing, 680 reading, -- i always got 700+ plus in math so i am retaking it :(
Havnet taken my SAT II math yet , but averaged around 730.

School and Grad Date: Dwight Englewood 2015

Honors/AP's: Integrated Math I and II honors, Pre Calc Honors , Latin 4 honors, Ap Stat, Compsci, and Art History being taken in the senior year.

Holistic: Piano for 11 years, music theory for 4 years, piano competitions won : 1 out of 1 competed. I dont like competition, i like performing/ volunteering at hospitals , seniors homes, you name it.

Sports: Varsity lacrosse - average starter, not a D3

Goals and Major prefs: Buisness ( finance, accounting, etc) I feel like i have a moral obligation. will explain more below!!

During my the start of highschool, my parents have been on the brink of divorce, but has decided to not split apart for my sake. They act like neutral room-mates in the house. Its been hard on me emotionally and mentally. Then my very close grandpa passed away in my soph year. Its been hard.
I also bloomed very late, ( one of the youngest in my grade) and have final reached a respectable height of maturity and recognition. Sophmore year and Freshman year were disastrous socially and academically ( bullies and parents mainly, but most is cleaned up and taken care of. Worked very hard junior year to be accepted into AP's.

My father was a homeless farmer in china would defied all odds with hard work and sacrifice to create his buisness and create a good life in America and support his family and other families that were like his in china. He literally started from dirt and from nothing into a great business that is actually growing out of control lol. I feel terrible and guilty that i squander his hard work money that he pays toward my ~35000 per year tuition for my highschool. I think of the kids who could actually use this money and become people like my dad. So i've turning new leafs and becoming a new and better person ethically, academically and economically.

TL:DR , help me find some good business or liberal arts college in the North eastern area ( Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, etc etc. if u know a college that is very fitting for me that isnt in the North Eastern Area, please feel free to mention it below. Appreciate the time and effort and Thank You!

I think Dartmouth and Amherst are unlikely, but one never knows with the hook of first gen college. You would need to get your standardized scores higher though and ACE your senior year. And make sure to focus on the positives in your application and do not make excuses for your relatively poor performance in early HS. Colleges are looking for resilience and you showed it by the time you reached Junior year. So that should help, but no one likes to read about excuses.

If your successful father can afford to pay full tuition, you may do well at some need-aware LAC’s. A friend with a similar story had a DD got into Fairfield University in Ct bc she sent in her application in September, and made it clear from day #1 that it was her first choice and that she could pay full freight. I think that Clark and Hampshire are your better bets of those listed here. Also, you can consider Quinnipiac (CT), Dickinson (PA), Hobart (NY), James Madison (JMU), Bentley (Mass), Roger Williams (RI) and Providence College (RI). Hobart is particularly pretty and has a lot of students from NY/NJ area who want to go to Wall Street.

bump?

@barbfam1‌ do you think i could get into Providence and Fairfield with such a low gpa ? I am sure i can get above 2100 and 2200 (superscore). I just read a bit about them and they have a very prestigious and accredited buisness area.

bump?

have strong grades senior year and raise your tests scores and you should have a shot at a few of those schools. Also make sure to have good recs and essays and you should be set for a few of those schools

What did you like about the 5 schools you visited? Try to narrow down what attributes you liked.

The Northeast is a very popular destination to attend college. Is it more important to find a school with your favorite attributes or is it more important to stay in the Northeast? Because you might give yourself more options if you would pick a second geographic area of the country and add 1-2 schools.

Your gpa is too low for amherest and dartmouth. Don’t waste your time. Try to do your best senior year and study for the sat over the summer to retake it. Also see if you could record a piano album of songs you made / songs you’re really talented at playing! That’s something creative and exhibits talent.
