Some Colleges don't look at Freshman Year?

Are those classes taken in middle school calculated by your high school in your GPA? If yes, they matter. If your high school does not factor them into your GPA, they do not matter.

I took Alg1, Geometry, and Spanish in middle school. No college except the UCs ever found out my grades there.

UCs do care about high school level classes taken in middle school. Every other college does not care.

This sort of unfounded fear reminds me of when I overheard a bunch of freshmen worrying that an A- is worse than an A for high school grades… (hint: it does not matter).

A UC admission counselor came to my school and said when they look at transcripts they put an X right through your freshman year, so they completely ignore them. Also an admission counselor came from the university of la verne and said the same exact thing.

I’m in the same boat. It took me a while before I got my motivation to do actually do my hw and study.
However, I just contacted Princeton and received this response-
"Dear ****,

Thank you for your interest in Princeton University.

Princeton considers all of the information presented on your secondary school transcript, including grades from freshman year.

Regards,
Princeton University Undergraduate Admission Office"

I don’t know if the other rumors are false as well…

also, middle school grades definitely count for high school for some people. I took 5+ high school classes in middle school (had to go in the mornings to hs then bus back to the ms) and they are currently wreaking havoc on my gpa. Without them, my gpa would jump about .25 points… I think the best thing we can do is talk about what got us out of our lazy- slump (unless you have a more legit excuse like family/medical issues) and what we learned from the experience. at least thats what I plan to do
