Some Colleges don't look at Freshman Year?

I overheard someone at school talking about how some schools (they were saying Stanford) don't look at freshman year at all. Is this true?

Haha I'm crossing my fingers all of you say yes, you have no idea how much my GPA will skyrocket if it's true...

Er…I’m not sure but if it goes by a college to college basis, you’ll just have to look at how the college does it. I know the colleges that I’m going to take into account what you did freshman year.

Yes, e.g. Princeton.

“you have no idea how much my GPA will skyrocket if it’s true…”

However, they will still look at your overall class rank, which won’t change.

@AustroHungarian Yeah, you’re right… but it would still be nice to have a higher GPA, mind would go up by .5 if freshman (and I’m assuming middle school grades too) weren’t counted.

Lol yeah, mine goes up by ~.2… (3.75—> ~3.95)

Nice to know Princeton doesn’t consider freshman year!

Almost my class rank does suck, so nevermind ^.^ lmao

@21NFK94: Almost no colleges look at your middle school grades. :)

Dang .5?? And middle school grades?? Why would a college care about your middle school grades? I can understand maybe Algebra I or classes that you took that would count for high school credit, but I highly doubt a college would care if you got an A+ in 6th grade. I would just focus on your high school GPA. No middle school.

Really?! Man, this day just gets better and better!

My middle school grades are just AWFUL. It’s just so frustrating to me now, because I specifically remember having a contest with my friend on who had the most Cs on their report card. Everyone used to tell me the grades counted for high school, but they never really went into detail about GPAs and things like that, so I just assumed that my middle school grades only counted for getting IN to high school, and since I knew I was going to a public school, why should I bother?

Oh well, at least I made that mistake earlier on.

Yeah, they don’t care! I’m not sure if you said what grade you’re in. If you’re freshman/sophomore then you have time to basically make your GPA what you want to. If you’re a junior(rising senior) then you better haul butt to get your desired GPA.

They will see your freshman grades. But they will care much, much less about them than later years’ grades. I’m not sure it’s accurate to say they ignore them completely as if freshman year never existed

Yeah, I’m a junior, so I’m pretty much done, I’m just looking at last minute ways to make up for those bad freshman grades. I’m taking a few courses online this summer, so that’ll boost it a little, but not by much. But it’s really my middle school grades killing my GPA, so if they don’t count those, like some of you are saying, that will REALLY give it a boost.

middle school never counted from the beginning. I dont know who told you that lol

I know if I heard people saying I would laugh right then and there.

21 – when you say junior do you mean you’re about to be a senior??

“middle school never counted from the beginning. I dont know who told you that lol”

Not for everyone. I have Algebra I and Latin I on my transcript from middle school

That’s not the same. Those are high school courses not middle school classes. I have Algebra I and Spanish I but those are high school courses.

^—as in GPA wise. In credits I have algebra 1, geometry, and algebra 2, and spanish 1 from middle school. So basically, I just concentrated on the high school credit courses in middle school. Everything else doesnt really matter

Are you talking to me?

You don’t even have to worry about HS-level courses taken in middle school like Algebra 1 or foreign languages. They may show up on your transcript, but they won’t affect your GPA and colleges won’t care about the grade.

Unless you got Cs or lower…
