I have a few questions about the PSAT/NMSQT. Any help is much appreciated!
1. Are you given a choice to which PSAT (Wednesday or Saturday) you take during your Junior year or does this vary between schools?
2. If you take the PSAT on the Wednesday date, are you excused from classes?
3. Has there been a pattern in which 1 of these dates has been an "easier" test or a test with more generous curves?
4. After achieving National Merit Semifinalist Status, is your PSAT and SAT score still important to further progressing to Finalist? For example, does a higher PSAT/SAT yield a better chance for Finalist (and National Merit Winner) Status than a lower score, considering both scores are already past Semifinalist levels?
Thanks!

It varies from school to school.

This likewise probably varies from school to school, but I would certainly hope so.

No.

Your SAT needs to be high enough to get you to Finalist status (usually around 1900-2000). Your PSAT score doesn’t matter for becoming a Finalist. Scores make no difference in becoming a National Merit Scholar.

I’m not sure about all the dates in question, but I know that the SAT score is considered when becoming a Finalist. You can’t drop too much (below 2000-range).

But fastest response I’ve ever seen, thank you silverturtle!

^ Apparently it was at a price. :)

Woops, looks like we both made a mistake, but I much more often. :)
