Here’s the problem: I got 2 B’s my sophomore year from Chem Honors. I took the SAT 2 Chem and got a 770 in June 2014. I took AP Chem and got 2 A’s and I was the one of the best students in my class (my teacher is even writing me a rec letter). I’m pretty sure I got a 5 on the AP test too. I ended up being one of the top 2 scorers in my school for Chem Olympiad, I’ve won medals for Chem Lab in Science Olympiad at Invitational, Regional, and State levels. At my school, we have a protocol to change letter grades if the teacher approves it. I’m a rising senior, and I have a 3.75 UW GPA and I want to major in Chem in college. Should I convince my Chem Honors teacher to change my grades? If she does, I will be put at the top quartile of my class in terms of UW GPA and it will raise my W GPA. Somebody help!
If you took AP Chem and regular chem with the same teacher, you might want to wait until after you get the rec so you don’t appear as a grade grubber.
Do you deserve an A? Probably not. But you might as well ask, all the teacher can do is say no.
@Frigidcold I never took regular Chem. I did forget to mention though, I had two different teachers: one for honors, one for AP (this one is writing me a rec letter).
Sorry, I refer to honors Chem as regular Chem because all the classes at my school are at least honors level. Anyways, go ahead I guess.
@Frigidcold I think my real underlying worry isn’t whether or not my teacher will change my grade though. It’s more, will colleges look down upon me for getting two B’s in Chem Honors despite how far I’ve come? My grandpa died two days before the year began, so I did struggle emotionally throughout the entire year.
I doubt any college would care about one B. (idk how your school works but mine only sends final grade, not semester).
@Frigidcold my school sends out both semester grades. And these aren’t my only B’s. I had a lot from my sophomore year due to my emotional problems.
There’s really no harm in doing so.
