I want to go to college for computer science with a cyber security minor. I applied to GMU, VA tech, UVA, and William & Mary. I’ve been accepted to GMU and Va Tech and am waiting for UVA + William & Mary for acceptance. I’ve been looking at all the statistics and rankings, as well as federal/state recognition and national recognition for the respective program. Any insight into these schools programs would be much appreciated
I am currently a student at William & Mary. My roommate is a computer science major, and he really enjoys it here. William & Mary offers the small class environement you may be looking for and the attention from professors (whether to do research or beyond), so you may want to visit. However, it is a rather small department and if I have heard complaints about how it can be tough to get into certain classes or how there are not as many professors available as they would like. I would say Virginia Tech or UVA would probably be your best bet for what you are looking for, but the others can provide you with a well-rounded or more diverse student body of different majors and students. They may have more of an emphasis of making sure you are also a strong writer/speaker in addition to being skilled in your particular field.
Undergraduate CS programs typically do not receive rankings by national publications, so be careful to take note of the stated scope of the sources you have been consulting.
That said, William & Mary seems as if it could be an excellent choice.
