So im planning on coming back during thanksgiving and i want to book my tickets now. But before i do so, i want to know whether or not the week(s) before thanksgiving is hectic? Like do the professors assign a bunch of hw or what not for students to do over the break. If they do..then i might decide not to go home during thanksgiving. Anyone know?

Also, i ordered my books from amazon and i also accidentally paid (i didnt pay attention at first lol) for my books that i reserved at SD. Yea, stupid me. I plan on returning them immediately right when i get them. Do they allow that? Also, when they give me a refund, do they do so with a check written to me or do they just deposit the money straight into my checking account?

Depends on the professor and the class. It’s hard to give definite answers right now. I had tons of reading over the break, some friends had papers/take home midterms etc. But you really don’t know until they hand out the syllabus.

You mean you want to return them to amazon? Those questions will probably be better answered by someone at amazon, then. Why don’t you just cancel the textbook reservation service? it’s overpriced anyway.

the reservation service means that they set them aside for you so you don’t have to wander the aisles of the bookstore yourself – you’re free to remove stuff from your stash before forking over money. i had to do this since i had already bought my calculus book for a summer school class.

^uh…no i dont want to return to amazon. The books i ordered from amazon r those that i want to keep. The reserved ones from UCSD that i accidentally paid for when i paid my total fee are the ones i want to return. Sorry if i wasnt clear before =/

When you pick up the books, take the ones you don’t want and return them at the bookstore counter. The bookstore will credit your school account and if you have signed up for direct deposit, the money will be transferrd to your bank account when they do a batch disbursal. That is what I understood from the financial aid office.

Actually, UCSD bookstores does not accept any returns on textbooks/course-related material unless you have verified proof that you have dropped the class.

^if bookstore doesnt accept, then where do i return my textbooks? They give us 2 weeks to return for full refund dont they? BTW, i didnt sign up for direct deposit, which is why im wondering how the refund works.

You mean… return your textbooks at the end of the quarter? During the last and first weeks of the quarter, they have a book-buy back stand outside of the bookstore, and they give you up to 50% of the book price back. In cash.

I meant basically the same thing as Astrina, don’t ever take the books out of the bookstore. Take them to the return counter if they were already charged to your account before you leave withthe ones you are keeping. They should not have charged you for them before you picked them up but if they did, you should be able to reject them before you take them out of the store.
