Some pictures of the new University Village (UV).

These are proposed renderings. Groundbreaking is projected to happen in 2011 and the grand opening is suppose to be in 2014.

Hope you enjoy them. Comment the thread if you like the pics.

Pictures are curiosity of USC's Real Estate & Assets Dept.

Wow…it’s going to be really nice.

Man, I hope it looks that nice. Boo on the parking though, that lot is going to be nowhere near big enough. Maybe if they took that space and made it a 5-story parking structure…

The new University Village will add much needed residential space. One of my favorite features is a hotel, so convenient adjacent to the campus.

There already is a hotel, Georgia Girl  It’s called the Radisson Midtown at USC.

But yes, another hotel would definitely help.

Wings,
I am well aware of the Raddison Hotel. It has been much discussed here on the USC Forum. However, it is not new anymore. Part of the hotel is used by students as dorm spaces, as you know.

The addition of a brand new “boutique” hotel will add close by accommodations which should be more appealing to visiting parents, international guests and conference attendees.

A hotel with a convention center would be nice.

I don’t think it will start next year, because most of UV tenants renewed their leases to 2012 already. We will be lucky if the project actually starts 2014 and is complete by 2010. That is one of the main tasks of the new president. The EIR is released by city planning so everyone can see it at a local public library.

Hawkwings,

I believe the parking structure is going to be 4 to 5 stories tall, with student housing surrounding it and a grass field on top.

Wow! Btw, what is the university village?

wow, a shame i’ll be long gone after that finishes up. the university village is an area across campus that houses shops and food places for the convenience of students. ours is a bit of a disappointment in its current shoddy disposition, which explains the plans to revamp the place. it’ll be interesting to see how it turns out in the end.

Won’t this mean tearing down Cardinal Gardens?

Yes. It will take some time, however, for the plan to proceed through all the government requirements and the area is redeveloped.

Also if you’re curious as to what the new campus center will look like, here is a great link.

Dammit 2014 is when i graduate lol

Wow. That looks brilliant but it’s going to ruin life for everyone for the next three years. However, I have a very hard time believing that this will actually come to fruition by 2014 unless USC has been laying the groundwork with the city (permits, licenses, etc.) for many years.

They have for several years now. Possibly a decade. However, I do agree that it might not be as soon as 2014, for the completion, but possibly 2016. Having been a student, I know that USC construction projects get completed very very quickly.
