If you take Algebra1 in 8th grade, and that’s the high school diploma requirement, so does that counts in your high school GPA?

If you take a course online and it does transfer the grade to your high school, so does that count in GPA?

What are the advantages of correspondence than online? (it’s for the Keystone National School)

1) Whether or not 8th grade algebra counts in your high school gpa depends on the school and its policies. Usually I do not think 8th grade classes, even if they are high school level, count in your high school gpa, but check with the school.

2) Again, check with the school. When my kids take outside classes (online, local college, etc.) we count the grades as given in the homeschool transcript, but different schools would have different policies.

3) Correspondence means NO computers. Everything is paper-based, and homework and tests must be snail-mailed in. Turn-around time is longer. My ds took honors chem through Keystone using the i-school, and he liked how the homework and tests were graded either automatically or within a day or so. He also liked the immediate feedback to questions.

in response to your second question, I've taken 2 courses online and am working on a third now. those two previous courses appear on my transcript and the grades are factored into my GPA. I'm not sure if this is pertinent, but I did email one college that was asking for a transcript from the online schools I had taken my classes from and reminded them that these same grades appeared on my high school transcript. they replied that I did not need to send them another transcript.

The Keystone chem class was ridiculously easy -- the basic course work took him about 45 minutes per week, and the honors work took an additional 2 hours. The honors work was basically researching a topic each week and writing a pragraph or two about it.

He says it was the easiest A he received in high school. He didn't learn a lot, but it was a year of chemistry so he could take AP chem through PA Homeschoolers the following year. He loved that class.
