So I was just wondering if all Yale students are complete superstars. I'm feeling really inadequate right now. I'm the top student in my class (top ACT score, GPA, course load, etc.), and I have some significant extracurriculars and awards, but I don't have a huge list of amazing things like so many Yale CC hopefuls have.

Is it possible to get in without major service projects or lots of national/international awards?

Sure. If you look at the results threads, you will see plenty of admittees who have excellent grades and scores, and good ECs in their schools. It’s just that there are an awfully lot of people like that.

Agreed with Hunt. Since you are top in your class, top scores, you’ll no doubt get into a very selective school-- but you just can’t guarantee which one, as would be true virtually no matter how stellar your stats and ECs.
plenty of kids get into Yale but not Princeton or v versa, etc. . . . often there’s no rhyme or reason.
my sister didn’t have absolute top grades and scores yet got into U of Chicago . . . but alas, not into Kenyon (where she had really wanted to go.)

But many, many accepted applicants aren’t top in their class and didn’t have perfect scores. As long as you applied to several fine schools, try not to worry.

Thanks leslier. I applied to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, and one of my state universities. It’s just that Yale looks like the most amazing school in the world, and I really really really want to be accepted!
