some strange CR questions in kaplan's 12 practice tests for the SAT???

hi in page 669( section 8, pr 8), there is question #7, asking vocabulary " mechanically" in context clue.
i found strange this answer choices.
in the passage "UNLESS he is writing MECHANICALLY, the writer does NOT experience his writing as an act of creation ; he experiences it as an act of discovery.
I think the " unless" is used in some conditional statement as a meaning of "if not"
so i equated this sentence such as ; NOT wrIting MECHANICALLY, then NOT experience his writing as AN ACT OF CREATION. so in a contra-positive form ; experience an act of creation, then writing MECHANICALLY.
an answer choice C of #7 is correct according to the correct answer sheet.
(c) un-imaginativeely.

i think, in order to answer choce c to be an correct answer, it rather has to change as IMAGINATIVELY.
because i equated creation with imaginatively rather than discovery.

what do you think guys?

and this kaplan’s is 2007 edition.
