Some things I didn't like in Harry Potter 7 *SPOILER ALERT*

I am soo annoyed that Slytherin House still exists!!! Almost all of them were evil! As I read the end of the book and everyone sat together, not as houses, I thought it meant a new time for Hogwarts, when everyone just lived together and were no longer divided along house alliegances...but, I guess I was wrong

hotpiece, normally I'd agree with you, but that was the point: you shouldn't judge just based on house. Dumbledore said that they sorted at too young an age and people do change, as he insinuated that perhaps Snape would have been a Gryffindor if he had waited.

Also,

Do any of you feel kind of empty? I was really happy to finish it, but now I really do not know what to do with myself. My life almost seems to have no meaning without a new Harry Potter book coming out. That is kind of pathetic actually haha.

I think Snape would have only been a Gryffindor after Lily died. That was the only time he showed remorse for his evil ways.

I feel exactly the same way! Haha...but this thread is making me want to reread it RIGHT NOW because there was quite a lot of stuff I didn't fully understand.

okay, i don't think anybody has mentioned the significance of this, but:

WHAT WAS THE DEAL WITH HARRY POURING SNAPE'S BLOOD INTO A FLASK????

and then he didn't use it!

I figured that Harry would use Snape's blood to resurrect himself or something, but I guess not. So if he didn't use the blood, what was the point in collecting it into a flask?

He didn't collect Snape's blood into that flask...those were Snape's memories!!

Me finishing this last book was the end of an era. After 10 years of reading Harry Potter, numerous summers spent learning the mysteries of Hogwarts and praying that my favorite characters survive, I feel oddly at peace with its ending. I feel like it happened when it should have, and I am ready to let go of Harry Potter, just as he let go of his parents and friends. Rowling made the ending so wonderfully complete (in my mind) that I think even if she did write an 8th book, I wouldn't read it.

Okay something was just off in this book. For a start they edited out 25 pages after scholastic and Bloomsbury said the book would contain 784 pages. It just seemed too rough, like JK Rowling wasn't writing it in some parts. But I am thoroughly vindicated about Snape.

they didn't edit out the pages... the other pages were the dedication page, that page with the quotes, the title pages, and the pages afer the epilogue ended. they did the same thing in the 6th book, too.

My life does feel awfully empty, now.... I used to always have something Potterish to look forward to....

6th and 7th movies :)

I finished the book yesterday, and as soon as I put it down, I felt so right/wrong. The book ended well, imo, but still, many of us have grown up with Harry Potter, it just feels strange letting go.

Anyway, I always knew Snape was loyal!! (That's why I wore my "Snape is loyal" sticker from Borders so proudly on Friday night, lol) But the fact that he was in love with Lily sort of caught me off guard. It was thoroughly sweet though, even if he did absolutely loathe James.

I think the deaths of Lupin, Tonks, Mad Eye, Dobby, and Fred were totally random and ...wrong. I always expected them to be right alongside Harry, to the very (VERY) end. Fred's death hit me the hardest, though. The twins were always my favorites, and now that one of them is gone, it just all seems so off.

Btw, does Teddy Lupin exhibit any signs of being a werewolf? I wonder...but I guess not, since Rowling didn't even hint at it in the epilogue.

Mrs. Weasley cursed! Lol, I never expected her to do anything like that. I guess we always knew she had a temper, but we definitely underestimated her!

Wow, this book definitely took me on a roller coaster ride! I laughed, I cried..it was crazy. I'm really gonna miss all the HP & the whatever's

Well, at least we have the movies to look forward to :\ It's really better than nothing, lol.

I wish the Dudley's played a larger role in the book.

I'm totally with you, Hotpiece, in your posts 17 and 19.

At first I didn't quite get why Harry dug Dobby's grave by hand. Then I realized it was that Harry felt Dobby was worth the time and effort. Does that make sense?

hold on. I thought that Harry having Lily's eyes was going to be really important... and it wasn't. Was that supposed to be why Snape protected him? I was thinking that it would be more important.

^I was wondering about that too...

oh, and did it explain about dumbledore's letters to petunia and what he meant by "remember my last." i had thought that would be explained....

don't get me wrong, I loved the book. I just have questions.

I thought Dumbledore's letter to Petunia ("Remember my last") was explained in HBP? It was something about how his last letter detailed how Harry needed to be under the protection of family/home until he comes of age, so the Dursleys can't throw him out or anything.

Oh and I was just wondering about the cover of the book (US)....it's supposed to be Harry catching the Elder Wand at Hogwarts, right? It took me a while to figure out why he was holding out his arm like that haha

Lily's eyes.... It reminded Snape of how mmuch he loved her, so he could never just hand Harry over to Voldemort. It kept him on the good side.
